Been a couple posts lately about availability of carburetors..Mentioned that there are replacement carbs for chainsaws and lawn mowers on e-bay for $15. Now they are starting to show up larger carbs ( probably chineese) based on Marvel Sheb carbs... Saw this recently.. Does mention some ALLIS units.

I dont know internally if they use MS jets and gaskets or not. That would be nice.. Not sure how you get a carb to run well on a 138 inch motor and also a 200 inch motor.. I guess fine tuning the adjustments would be close.. Possibly a smaller or bigger internal jet might be needed on some motors.

We had a replacement carb for one of the Honda knockoff engines. Got the new carb from the company that made it. New carb did not work right. Buddy called the company and they said that for some of the larger engines you had to drill the jet larger. Buddy did that and the carb then workrd as it should.

Be carful with them. Any Carburetor that fits the 201/226 engines will have a shorter throttle arm and will be pushed to open where as the BE/CE/138/149/160 engines will have a longer arm and pull to open. Also both will have the arm on the engine side. The picture shown would have the arm opposite the engine side when oriented to have the air inlet line up with the air cleaner. The mounting bolt centers are also closer on the small engines as opposed to the further spacing on the 201/226 engines.

I just put a $15 chineseum carb on a Briggs Generator. Worked fine after I changed out the butterfly and arm for the old one, and re-mounted the exhaust to clear.

there does not appear to be and EXACT MATCH for a B- C tractor... there are 2-3 different versions sold on e-bay.. I think you would have to look at the ones sold for a 8N or 9N FORD, and double check the mounting bolt pattern... then as Corbin said, you might have to mount the choke rod in from the opposite side, or modify the mount are for the cable pin ........... i have not verified the mounting bolt pattern on any, compared to a B.
the TSX428 shown above is for a 134 cubic inch FORD compared to a 125 inch ALLIS so the size is acceptable... the ball sockets for the cables would obviously have to be modified / removed.

My Dad bought a tractor with a 201 cu. in. in the last couple of years. It was impossible to get it to run right. With the choke partially applied it would manage to stay running but short of power. The long and the short... it turned out to be a MS carb for a Continental 162 cu. in. Too much difference to work. Once we had the right carb everything was perfect.

YEA.... you can probably fudge a 134 CID carb on a 125 CID motor, but you were off 25% ... Drilling out the main jet a few thousands would have helped... Its somewhat a trial and error process, if your not using the factory parts.

I've always preached over the years about these "replacement" Carburetors. Problems with these things are incorrect jetting, linkage hookups, mating to manifolds, etc. The best thing to do is find the correct Carburetor for the application so it fits, runs, and works as it should for that particular engine. When you havta' start drillin' jets, fudging linkage, slotting the mounting holes, it just turns into an ass-ache. And in the end, they don't run right anyway. To rich, to lean. Bah Humbug!.... There have been a lot of 'B's parted out over the years. It shouldn't be too difficult to find a good or rebuildable original carb. I'm sure I have a few on the parts shelves.

This is definitely a case of 'buyer beware'.
I recently installed a $70 Chinese-built Carter YF one-barrel carb on my Son-in-law's 81-F150 Ford pickup; it bolted on and ran great right out of the box.

If you could get an original carb , rebuilt and be in the $100. range, it would be a non issue.. Some of these old carbs they want $300- 500. for them.. If you get a "new replacement" for $30. - $50. ............ i think its worth discussing ? ......... as Les said, you have to beware and know what your doing.
One BIG question is if you bought a "rebuild" gasket and jet kit for a MS carb, would it fit the "NEW" Chineese carb ? Are they interchangable with parts ? If you need a new BODY for an old carb, could you buy the "NEW" and use its parts ?

Good question Steve. I don't have a clue whether or not there's any interchangeability between these Chinese Carburetors and OEM units. You might as well face it, the $30-$50 dollar good rebuildable Carburetors went out with saddle shoes man. Haven't seen one priced like that since I was three foot one. Now I'm four foot one. Like Phil said, the Carbs and parts are out there, they're just not cheap anymore. To me, (and this is just me) I would put that $50-$75 bucks that I was going to put towards purchasing a Chinese Carb and put it towards a good rebuildable OEM that's specifically for the application. Takes away the guess work. Hey, sometimes you take a chance on somethin' and it works out. It's like anything else when gambling. Sometimes things work, and sometimes they don't. Sometimes you bite the bear, and sometimes the bear bites you....  Steve@B&B

we get alot of the china carbs come threw here when the lawn and garden season is hot and rarely do they run well and they want us to make it run right. well kits and parts dont interchange, if you are hired by the hour the best thing to do is put the oem part on and be done with it then down the road you can get parts . most people dont want to pay you to experment and modifiy ether
