the gooseneck hitch. This was in our new to us F-350.
Two iron channels that were bolted down crossways in the bed, with a big plate that has the ball hitch, was just sitting down in the two channels. I could lift the plate out, it was just sitting in those channels under its own weight. I take that not correct? What is supposed to hold this plate in the channels?
I tried to follow the science, but it was not there. I then followed the money, and that’s where I found the science.

PHOTO please.

These are what I had in my F250 prior to bed removal, the smaller angle iron parts are now attached to the hitch box on my new flatbed.

There should be 4 hitch pins with hairpin keepers, one for each “corner” of the top plate, that slide in (front to back) through the lugs of the top plate that drop down into the channels, securing the plate into the channels.
A fifth wheel will mount the same way if you want to use one

Don’t have a gooseneck, or a fifth wheel trailer at this time, just a bumper pull recreational trailer, and a tow dolly.
Just went to the storage shed and checked, it appears to be ‘Curt’ brand.
I’ve never figured out how to post pic’s on this site using my iPhone, this site I only access also only from my iPhone.

What is that hitch in the picture rated for? I always over build everything- its gotta be bolted to the frame - a few welds - I do understand that if the load it right, theres not that much pull on the ball - but being on I 44 ALOT , seeing some pretty crazy weight distribution thats bad

Not sure, I just found an image to illustrate my explanation of the pins and keepers. Those channels bolt through the bed floor, and connect to angle iron brackets that are bolted through the frame directly under the bed / channels. (Typically). This setup is made to convert a fifth wheel rail mount to a gooseneck ball. I’d assume the standard gooseneck mount (under the bed) is stronger, but i have seen the rail mounted plate style with a 25k lb rating. (Curt brand Spider mount)

Lars

The picture of the Curt 5th Wheel Hitch that L'il Stevie posted is only part of the Hitch.

The two channels that you mentioned are in the Bed of your F-350 and bolted to Angle Brackets located below the Bed and bolted to the Truck Frame.

If you look at RedHeelers picture, you will note how the 5th Wheel Plate is fastened to the 2 Cross Channels with 4 Hitch Pins and Keepers.

That style of Goose Neck / 5th Wheel Hitch was totally redesigned around the 2020 Model Year Pick-up Truck.

The Optional Goose Neck / 5th Wheel Prep Package only includes the 4 special corner Angle Brackets and a Centre located Goose Ball Bracket.

This new design lets a customer easily relocate this New Design from his used Trade-In Truck to his New Truck without any Tools etc.

Thanks for everyone, the pic Steve put up is exactly what I have.
Gary, you are correct, mine were bolted down thru the truck bed to angle brackets that I have left attached to the truck frame, just in case I ever need to reinstall this hitch.
I tried to follow the science, but it was not there. I then followed the money, and that’s where I found the science.

These same Hitch mounts as I had in my F250 were what BILs neighbor had bolted into his Short Bed GM, FAILED to install the To Frame Angles, bed cracked to bupkus, he still tried to drag a fifth wheel to CO from Fenton MO, trailer tore hitch off truck and ended up flipping both.  WHATEVER move this to, always inspect the bed to frame angles and boltings reasonably often.  Mine were all that were holding the OEM 8 footer to my Ford when started that project.
I left those angles on my frame and when installed Flatbed made them into anchors at Hitch Box.
