Hey folks, I'm a long time viewer and seldom poster. I have recently acquired this 220 tractor. It starts and runs good. Due to a current cold snap, have only driven it as much as to unload it and park it. I know the tractor has sat a lot in the last several years. The first thing I did to even get it home was to remove an old patch on the rear rim and make a new patch. I welded it in and then prime and painted the wheel. I then installed on the tractor so the tire could be put back on. I have spotted some things that need done first. I'm sure it will need TLC throughout. The oil cooler has a leak that led me to having it hauled home rather than driving it. It is an external oil leak between the cooler and block and so from what I saw on the parts breakdown appears to be an O-ring. While I'm working on it I will reseal the whole cooler unit. I have learned after the purchase, that very few of these left the factory with an Allis Laporte cab. My original plan was as many do was to set the cab aside and hunt for fenders. Now I'm not sure. Some may have seen on the Facebook page as I did post it there a few days ago. If anyone has anything that I should do or check before much use, please let me know. I'm sure I will have questions as I get into it. Thanks. ![]() |

If that cab is factory installed, I would keep it on, unless it is totally roached out.
I tend to be a ‘keep as original/stock’ as possible kinda guy. |

The oil cooler to block orings is all I would do, you might end up with a mess if messing with rest of cooler. I don't think those give much trouble. You'll also need the orings for the water pump pipe. I did see it on fb, and commented about it being a 72 LaPorte tractor. Cool save! If the cab is nice, definitly leave it on.

i dont know why everone wants to take the cab off , i would be uptown with a heat houser and a umbrella , why not just take the doors windows off for the summer or fix the a/c

I like that cab style. Looks good on your tractor. Working it on a hot summer day, the cab will keep the hot sun off you. Tim |

I actually figured the cab was in worse shape than it is. I had pretty well made up my mind to leave it on. I was also surprised that reliance offers a cab kit for it as it’s currently stripped. This is a heat only cab but I’m hoping to maybe find a parts cab and a compressor to add and then have a/c.
It’s all new to me as I just got it home Thursday. D17 was the biggest I had before this. |

From the looks of it someone took good care of it, personally I like the cab. Big step up from a D-17 for sure. I thought when I stepped up to a 190XT it was a big step but you got me beat lol. Congratulations, nice tractor.

Congrats on the 220! Sounds like you’ve got a great project ahead. Definitely tackle that oil cooler leak first, and while you’re resealing it, check all fluid levels and filters since it’s been sitting. As for the cab, keeping it could add some uniqueness, especially since it’s original. Best of luck, and feel free to ask as you dive in!

Another vote for keeping the cab (not that you need another vote). Really looks good & as mentioned with doors/glass out for summer it'll offer some shade. Not to mention, you could always add an open station model much more easily & have the choice of both. ;)

The rear window is missing. It must have got broken out as the arms are still connected. The lower half hinge is gone. I have found a source for the rear window but not the hinge. The lower window in the door is cracked but still in place.
