Pulled the shift tower with gear in reverse to have some machine work done, now putting it back in, worried that I haven't got forks it seated right. Tips, tricks?

Sometimes it takes a couple trys, after install put just two bolts in and try each gear- you can tell if it's in gear by rocking tractor back and forth then shift to newtral and try and see if it will roll. Do this in each gear before you put all the bolts in and stearing shaft support. HTH

Everybody has their own opinion, but I find it easier when it is in Nuetral to drop the shift tower in.

Thanks very much. This is a stupid question, but does this entail manually moving the gearing into neutral before setting in the forks? I assume that's what you mean. Can you tell that this is the first time I've ever done this? I think I had it in reverse to remove it as that was the easiest to get it out. Putting it back in is another story!

OK, put it in neutral and tried to drop the forks into their grooves but it's tricky. Is there a best order to slip the forks in or just do your best to line them up? Easier if I stand on a particular side? Every time I think I have them set correctly, the tractor doesn't seem to want to go into gear easily.

You may well not be able to shift into all gears even when installed correctly.The chance of every slider being lined up with corresponding couplings is not very likely. Rock the rear wheel alittle while trying each gear. If you lock in the hand clutch and it goes in gear,you won't be able to move it. It will roll only in neutral.
