This may have been discussed before,buy if it has ,please refresh my memory.I was working on an 8050 today and noticed scratched in the top of the valve cover the initials RCS and then the date 2/12/84.I have seen these initials and the date on numerous engines over the years.Does anyone know who this was?The initials are scratched in the paint so I would assume it was done in final assembly.Also,were the engines painted or primered at Harvey,or were they painted at there final destination?I don't remember seeing a paint room at the Independence combine plant,but there had to be one.

My dad's 185 has initials and a date  from 1980 or 81 in it just as you describe.  I don't remember the initials but RCS seems familiar.  WOuld be interesting to hear some responses.

Did Allis have the valve covers made a plant in Kingsville Mo. If they did then maybe the same guy that worked there back in the 80's that put "batman for ever" in cat valve covers did it to your covers too. FYI he got fired for it. And yes I knew him. lmao
