Good luck with that one. I put in an old Sherwood in the 7045. I lights up orange which is cool, but I had to enlarge the hole for it. I also had to enlarge the hole on the 8070's. They now sport CD players. I don't mind change, but somethings would be good if they would stay the same. The last time we bought a refrigerator, it was hard to find one that could fit inbetween our cabinets.

Kenwood makes an "old type" unit that fits the small rectangular hole and has the 2 knobs for volume and channel. It is a great unit with a very good antenna and a nice amp that will drive 4 speakers really loud and clear, and I believe it lights up an amber orangish color.

I am sorry I was mistaken, they no longer make it, man I been out of the stereo business too long, lol. here are some choices though.
Or you could just go to the local pawn shop and they might have something, I guess these area antique pieces now, wow everything is moving fast.

Here is another choice, these next few will be cheaper types, but quality will be down.
Here is the Kenwood I was talking about and the next is an older Alpine, they are great units with good sound. |

The problem I've found is the replacment radios can't stand the vibration and the dust. Just because it will fit in the hole doesn't mean it will last. That Kenwood is a dandy unit but I don't know if it would like tractor duty...

Well, I would possibly try a cheap one, or go with a marine unit, the marine units are built for vibration and moisture.

Here is one, you can find a bunch of the "knob" style marine units online.

Here is another cheap one that won't hurt our wallet too bad. If it lasted a couple years it would be worth it to me.

I bought a radio from my IH dealer, it had a weather station in it that wasnt too expensive and is good quality. They said it would take the abuse from a tractor better than some. Nice radio, fit in a 8050 pretty easy, but with smart phones the weather radio part is old school.

My Agco dealer had an aftermarket radio that fit the 8070, made for tractor use and wasn't that expensive.

I have updated the radios in a few of our 7000 series. I used inexpensive, modern radios and mounted them in the 8 track player hole. I just made a new plate to accommodate the radio and match up to the mounting holes in the cab. Most of the tractors I have seen just have a block out plate there anyhow. I also made a plate to cover the original radio mounting location. It makes for a clean installation and I didn’t have to modify the cab. The radio is just on the opposite side, which I never saw as a problem. You can always change it back to original. should the desire arise. Edited by Dan (SE MI) - 03 Aug 2012 at 10:43am |

I looked all over for a radio to fit in my 7060. I finally decided, whats the use keeping the old knob style hole if you can't find a radio for it. I cut the hole out bigger for a receiver style radio and never looked back. Works great and you get to have digital tuning.
