What is the difference in the cap recovery tank or not?

I would think none.They both have to relieve pressure hot and inhale as one cools off.

The cap for an overflow system has a secondary rubber seal towards the top of the cap.  This seals up the top so it pulls vacuum through the overflow hose when the coolant cools down.  He is correct the older tractor units don't have that seal and won't work with an overflow jug.
