I have owned and used a r40 for five years over 170 acres per year never had problem with engine just make sure it blow out everyday thought that is similar to water cooled engines 

The Deutz used an either starting aid that worked automatically in cold weather with a temp sensor  

I wonder during harvest how many are close to eletric to plug in? When were harvesting we are seldom near a plug

I'm thinking 4 row wide to clear the tires i have 6 30 which  clears the tires and does  not tramp corn rows 

My uncle had an R40 until he retired a couple years ago. He and his son liked it better than his son's 1640. In green beans he could get more done in a day than the 1640. They ran them a lot in the same fields for years. It would do better in green beans than the 1666 too. They got the 1666 when they traded the 1640. I have no idea what rotor set up the R40 had but both Cases ran the standard rotor. They ran a red one because the dealer was only 4 miles from the home farm but now the only combine my cousin runs is an R65. He traded a 2166 for the R65 and he loves it. Way less repairs on all the Gleaners vs the red ones. One year he spent over $17,000 on the 1666 a dozen years ago The only time he spent any thing close to that amount on any of the Gleaners is when a sink hole opened up under the R65 a couple years ago and that still was less than $17,000.

The guy that used to haul my cattle and his brother and pa owned the AC dealership in Stewartville MN until the 80's crisis, he owned a 100-06 and milked cows in Minnesota winters and he said it was the best 100 hp tractor he had ever owned..... it was the only one in the area I had ever seen. It had a loader and did all the manure hauling and feed grinding. I thought it was the ugliest tractor I'd ever seen too!
