    Posted: 05 Aug 2021 at 7:48am
We're thinking about adding a Q/A adapter to my Allis-Chalmers 400 loader (mounted on an Allis-Chalmers 5050) and wondering if there are any issues in doing this that we ought to know about before making the investment?

Also, any suggestions as to make or type we ought to buy?  Any help or insight appreciated.  Thanks.

Are you talking about on that hooks on the pins of the existing bucket or a skid steer type?
The pin type will move the bucket out several inches. It won't change the geometry other than that. We have one on a MF tractor, and it works well. Skid steer will need a different bucket or cutting off the existing brackets and welding on skid steer plate.

Cut one offa a junkyard modern tractor, you know one that has been hit by landscapers lightning. You will find that on an old wheel tractor, the attachments do not work in as small of places, as the same attachment, on a skid steer loader. And for powered attachments, you'll have to add a pricey hyd pump, to power them...Wink

It sounds like the Q/A adapter that hooks on the loader arms pins would be the one for me.  I really wouldn't want to cut off the end of the loader arms and then weld on a Q/A adapter.  Any suggestions who makes a pin-on style Q/A adapter that would fit on my A-C 400 loader?  Any negatives to this set up vs. the weld-on Q/A adapter?

Ive been looking at a loader for a 160 tractor, its missing the bucket so I started looking at Q/A skid steer attachment. It uses pins to connect to the loader and cylinders. So I’m not understanding why you would want to buy something that requires butchering your loader. Once you do that, it would be hard to go back unless you have a good welder. Quite pricey, $1,400 plus the cost of finding a bucket. Pretty soon your $2k in to it. Not sure I’m willing to spend that kind of cash for a 50 year old loader in my case. I’m still up in the air but I will go that route before I butcher the loader. Just my opinion.

I have a Q/A on my Mahindra and it works really well so that’s the reason I feel so strong about the pin type. I can go from bucket the forks in a matter of seconds and it dumps the bucket full tilt.
