Edit: the timing was off a little, 27 degrees vs 30 degrees that the book says that it should be.    How critical is this, and what problems would this create?

I have narrowed the surging and missing on my 7010 down to the governor on the Simms P5188 injection pump, and am working with a shop in Red Oak Iowa for a replacement.

But just to make sure I don't screw this up too bad, I just need to line up the timing mark on the flywheel with the pointer on 30 deg BTDC, AND line up the timing marks on the injection pump hub at the same time?

There is a "timing window" on the timing gear cover that I can remove and view the marks on the pump hub.

According to my FiatAllis Fuel Injection service book (for a Gleaner L with a Simms injection pump) the engine timing marks need to be on 30 degrees BTDC, so that is where I will put it.  (not 18 degrees as with a Roosa-Master)

Thanks,
Roscoe

27 degrees will start better when cold.
