 Topic: Push Rod installation

I took the head off awhile ago, had it rebuilt, and didn't take any photos of it. Any advice on the best way to re install the push rods and rocker arms? How do the push rods connect to the rocker arms?

Put the head on and then Just stick each pushrod in the lifter hole it came out of. Bolt the rocker arms on and then set the valves
|

Make sure that when you put the rods in, the cam lobes are UP.
When you install the rocker arms, have every arm LOOSE, so you don't bend the push rods when you tighten the bolts down. One of those things you learn the hard way when you're doing it by yourself for the first time....

Thanks, Guys. Yea got that all figured out but how do the two connect? Do the rocker arms snap in to the top of the push rods?

They wouldn't dare snap together or you wouldn't be able to set/adjust the valve lash/ gap to the .010 - .012. that is between the top of the valve stem and the rocker arm pad.

Like Ted said, make sure all the adjusters on the rockers are very loose so you don't damage a rod! Also, make sure the bottom end of the rod is seated well. Sometimes they can be "off" a bit, and when you go to tighten things down, it will make a loud "snap" when it pops down into its seat. Just things you learn over time. Sometimes it helps to have a helper's hands to make sure all the rockers are properly aligned when installing the shaft assembly. Sometimes it can be a bit tricky, as the rockers tend to be heavier on one end, so that end will want to pivot down, making it harder to line things up. (That is, if your shaft/rockers are worn a bit. Maybe new/reconditioned ones don't do that?)
