Around central Iowa there seems to be a theft ring going around to small towns. Friday night they were bold enough to hit vehicles at the PCM football game in Monroe. If the doors were locked they smashed windows to get in. With the sheer number of burglaries I’ve heard it’s a team of thieves that show up, steal stuff, including cars if the keys are in it, and leave. Rural areas tend to not be as concerned with locking everything, in fact, I know several people who leave their keys in the switch and wallets and cash in the console.
Foil these F*****g thieves, don’t leave anything worth taking in the car and pull the keys.

Small group of these had been working around here, got one property less than a mile away a few months ago but got stupid and got caught. Alarm system set off on one property, silent, that brought county out then a report on a car pulled in a drive and driver got out with handgun the state arrived on scene.
Cops were setting road blocks for the car and noted a van of people sitting then pulled out only to slow to a crawl and allow another to jump aboard at a remote residence then was stopped by cops.

Their faces on game cameras
Van on a private security vid and license number recorded. Car was stopped firearm located(stolen) and driver in possession of other stolen goods. He was related to van driver all from a neighboring county.

Our town highway department just had a tractor (~5 year old Kubota) stolen. It was found about 4 miles away stuck in a ditch.

I guess we need to take keys out of tractors, too.

My vehicles are locked at night and anytime I am not close to them. And I keep my gun in the house with me. If I need it, it won't do me any good locked in my vehicle. A locked vehicle will not stop a thief but it makes their target more difficult and often they will pass it up for something easier.
Just an old country boy saved by the grace of God.
