Update. I went back down Tuesday and his breathing had slowed considerably and had gotten a bit more raspy. But what amazed me was how much calmer and settled grandma was. That was nice to see. She has been so exhausted for the past two months it seems. Also today is his 88th birthday so he made it to his birthday. So basically I just wanted to thank everyone for their kind words and prayers. They are working to bring a bit of calm over everything that is going on.
Thanks again
Adam

Adam, I think Grandma knows the end is near.  It sounds like she has accepted God's will and is just waiting now.
Keep your chin up, it is the way of life.  Be glad for the times you had together.
Prayers still coming your way, maybe it can change the outcome yet....

Adam, as Ted has already said your Grandma knows the end is near and God has given her peace about it. Parting will still be hard but trust in our LORD and seek His perfect will. Praying that He will grant you and your family strength and comfort.
Just an old country boy saved by the grace of God.

Thank you all for the prayers and thoughts. Just wanted to update you all and let you know that grandpa passed away about 30 min ago. It's never easy to let go, but knowing he no longer has to fight his heart problems, diabetes, or infections eases the pain quite a bit.
Thanks again for all your kind words

So sorry to heat this Adam. I know the loss is hard to take, but like you with your Grandpa, when we lost my sister earlier this year, there was a sense of relief knowing she was no longer suffering. May God be with you and especially Grandma during this mourning season. God Bless.

Adam, you have to let go BUT, those memories will ALWAYS remain.  You will find yourself somewhere down the road, doing something and a smile will come to your face......I've done this or Grampa taught me this.

I know the loss hurts, but as others say, I lost my younger sister last year to cancer, her suffering is no longer.  Yes, he is in the palm of God's hand.  Where we will hopefully all be some day.  Thank God for the time He gave you together.

May the Lord smile down on you and bless your entire family at this difficult time.  Smile when you remember the good times..

Sorry for your loss Adam. I lost my last Grandpa. 17 years ago this April. Still hardly a day goes by that l don't think of him. The good thing is like Ted said we have the memory's, and that will never be taken from us. There is something special about grandpas to boys growing up, and now l am on the other side of it. That's all l ever wanted to be growing up, be like dad and grandpa, and drive AC tractors.

Ted,
I know what you mean and understand that everyone's time comes. I was thinking about all he taught me after I got the call Friday night. Lots of funny stories too. He had a heck of a temper when was growing up, but he never seemed to use it around us grandkids. He would correct us if we did something wrong, but never took his temper out on us. Many stories from the guys he worked with about that subject too. He was not a person to put up with junk tools (maybe why he used Allis equipment).

Him and my grandma ran the local laundromat in Oblong on the south side. Neighbors always laughed about him when some hot rodder would take off at the high school and speed by his house. He would grab a broomstick/shovel/ tire iron/ etc and chase them down the road. Oh they made him mad. Course he also drove no faster than 40 mph wherever he went. Maybe Lori is right and I need to write all these stories down.

Take care and happy new year to you all.
Adam

YES!!! Start writing RIGHT NOW........Better yet, get a tape recorder!!  You'll start thinking faster than you can type.  Too many things run together and with a recorder, you can just ramble.  When is the funeral?  Start writing his eulogy right now.  He's looking down so do him justice and make him proud.

Dang......for some reason this keyboard is getting wet......an it ain't even snowing here......yet.

I did the tape recorder thing for a school project in 6th grade. Maybe twenty years after graduation we had a family get together and mom remembered about that tape. My mom's first cousins get to hear their dad's voice again from when he was in his 70's. He past away in his 90's. At his end, he didn't know them as his mind wasn't right anymore. Tears came right fast when they heard his voice and his laughter of stories of his youth. Riding a pony to school, 1st telephone, 1st car, and of love. I get my mom's folks on it as well. They talk of farming with horses, and fun things to do on the farm that parents would do jail time for if we let are kids get away with their stunts. LOL Chickens and windmills, you would think chickens could fly better then they do. Grandpa said they just wouldn't, no matter how many times he tried. LOL

My wife interviewed my maternal grandmother a couple months before she passed away. My wife got up and read some of the comments during the funeral service. We still have those written down. I'm working on grandpa's as we speak. I'm already up to two full pages. I'd post it on here when I'm done, but I think it would take up too much room. Lol
