I have a 8050 PS that doesn’t crisply go into gear.  Pulls fine but when in gear but it’s easy to get it not in any gears.   Is this likely an internal issue or external?   I refuse to do major surgery on it.   If it’s a noninvasive repair I thought about hauling it to the dealer.

There is a spring and bearing that fits in a sawtooth like detent assembly - the roller could be bad or the spring.  Not to bad to pull off - if the gasket tears will have to pull the valve from the plate back to put in the twin gaskets.  IF you do this take a picture of where the stop plate pins are located and replace the shift rod seal. 70271515 is the pn of the roller. IF this is not a detent issue - make sure the trans pressure below 1800 light is working - then raise the rpm just enough to get the light out - then shift through all the gears including reverse and watch the light - it should come on then go off in a second or two - IF it stays on in one gear - you have a clutch pac seal issue.
