I have to decided to replace the seals in my Char-Lynn power steering motor on my WD45. The unit has been removed from the tractor and the only numbers that I can read from the model number are 821-171. Checking with Force America, as Skip suggested, I found that there are two seal kits for these motors. One of them fits about 90% of these old motors. Can anyone help with the complete model number as I am missing some numbers and letters? Or maybe some of you know the right seal kit from your experience. Thanks.

I had to replace just the small front oil seal on our char-lynn pump as it was leaking. I got it from Force America. Not sure about other seals or kits. Sorry. Ryan

I found the answer to my question. Stamped on the upper part of the Char-Lynn motor was the magical number that is 101F 122968. This is the model number that was needed to order the seal kit and apparantely this is the kit that works on most of these motors. The partial number I gave in my previous post was on a silver sticker on the motor is not needed for the seal kit even if the complete one were known. Thanks for your help.

Our Char-Lynn unit has been pretty much bullet proof on our 1950 WD. Just that small seal up front was replaced to stop a leak. I hope you have good luck with yours. Ryan

Farrell, Make sure you match mark that unit before you take it apart and pay attention to how the parts go. Been many posts over the years about those units suddenly developing wierd steering wheel spinning problems after a rebuild and the guys with the answers say " you dont have the parts in the correct sequence or rotation" |

Butch, as I understand from help on the Forum, that I will need to mark each end and then replace the seals one end at a time. Following this procedure will keep the unit in time, if I am understanding the instructions properly. Thanks for the heads-up.
