This is the opposite side power director shaft leaking.  Anyone have any ideas on how to fix it?  Can it be fixed from the outside or do you have to go through the other side compartment?  It is a D-17.  Thanks in advance, Keith

Yes, it can be fixed without splitting the tractor, but you do need to get inside the power director compartment. You have to remove the lock bolt from the power director clutch shaft actuator inside, then remove the shift lever on the outside. You can carefully slide the shaft each way enough to replace the o rings. Don't pull it out too far or the actuator will fall to the bottom of the compartment.

Split ours to replace o-rings. Maybe 6 hrs to take apart, same to put together. Though others have written on this site some crafty ways of fixing without splitting.

Takes too long.  The O rings can be replaced easily in a couple of hours without splitting.  Remove the big stick on the right side and snap ring on the left.  Drain oil and remove the inspection cover.  Gently push the shaft to the left and catch the 2 woodruff keys that will fall out of the shaft inside.  Replace the O ring on the left and push the shaft to the right to get the other O ring.  Once done, fit the keys back in the shaft and put everything back together.  Did this on my D14 last month (a bit different though - no woodruff keys).  Have to do this to my D17 gas in the next couple of months when I get room in the shop.

What he says. Been a long time since I did mine I forgot about the woodruff keys.
