My D-17 Series IV has a red power director light on the lower left hand corner of the instrument panel. Sometimes its on and sometimes it's not. No one every really explained to me what the purpose of this light is for. Is there trouble if it lights up? Or is it always supposed to be off? Mine seems to turn on only when I start it up. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

The light is supposed to be off. On my IV with new fluid and a filter it only comes on when I idle her low. Ryan

Only D-17 series 3 and 4 models had that red light. The D-19's also had it. When it is OFF, that indicates that the internal lube pump is circulating hydraulic oil to the filter (under the battery tray). It comes ON when the foot clutch is pushed in (lube pump stops rotating) or when the engine is idling with hot hydraulic oil. When cold and idling, the light is probably OFF. If the hydraulic compartment is extremely low on oil, I would expect it to be on quite a bit.
