Gentlemen,
Does anyone have any ideas on a diff lock or posi trac system for an Allis CA pulling tractor? Having issues with one wheel spinning and the other doing nothing making for short pulls which is aggravating to say the least. Any input appreciated. Dan

Let's make sure both rear tires weigh the same (fluid, 1/2 fluid, etc) and are matched brands and lug wear sharpness, and tire pressures are EXACTLY equal to begin with. If you actually had a diff lock, sounds to me like you would have driven it out-of-bounds, because one tire isn't biting as good as the other. Diff locks don't belong on a Pulling tractor.

No ideas but I would think if u locked them to tight u would have a hard time turning and or keeping it straight if one tire hits a soft spot . Can you run the brakes a little or maybe move some weights to the side that's spining.

Is it the same side that spins out all the time

If anyone finds out you've locked the diff, don't expect to be able to pull with them anymore. Highly frowned upon around here!!

Why does a diff lock not belong on a pulling tractor?

Because you cant steer with both wheels pulling at the same speed if one wheel slips your turning that way and you cant use the break to to steer back when on hard ground it goes staignt a head count

wait i screwed up here. yes i agree a diff lock wont work on a pulling tractor. however a posi trac/limited slip works just fine

Been a while since I watched tractor pulls but back in the day I don't remember any issues with open diffs causing one wheel spin outs. You got some other problem.

A post several years back concerning the same issue is resolved by someone by adding or removing differential carrier shims to limit one wheel spin. I would guess adding shims would equally to both sides may be the way to go and not lock up the rear end.
