i started into a new field yesterday with the 7010, and a 4 bottom semi mount IH plow, the second round i felt a jerk, and the #3 bottom had tripped!....pulled out, tried to reset it, but it won't! i backed up lowering the plow at the same time, got it mostly back, but it won't reset completely....do i gotta sledge hammer it back into place?? oh yeah...found what made it trip....a concrete chunk, about the size of an old nail keg!!  now where the...did that come from?? about 14 inches thick and 1-1/2 ft tall!

It would appear that you bent something. Although the sledge hammer might indeed be part of your "tool box", I would strongly suggest pulling the trip mechanism apart to see what the problem is. Having plowed many years with these old trip mechanisms, I can attest to the fact that hitting something like you hit... a somewhat unmovable object... damage can easily be done,.. especially if the tripped bottom jams hard back to ride over the obstruction...

It's god way of telling to stop violating his soil's natural structure haul the plow  to the scrap yard and hook onto a chisel of some sort.

Chisel plows are for people who are unable to set up and operate a moldboard plow.  IMHO
Most problems can be solved with the proper application of high explosives.

Shameless,

I'd suggest pulling it back in place with a come a long before beating it with a sledge. LOL!

Ted,

That comment almost belongs in the political section. It's a subject as touchy as politics, religion or what's the "best" kind of motor oil, LOL.

Ted has some truth in his comment. After helping buddies set plows, I'm pretty sure moldboard plowing is almost a "lost" art.
You don't really have to be smart if you know who is!

That is true plowing is almost a lost art the only people that plow in my area are the age 65 plus crowd.  That is why the once every 5 years or more that we try to plow sod we have the age 65 plus hired hand do it.

well...i own the plow...i don't own a chisel...that's why i'm plowing!! plus...a chisel don't maintain terraces very well! nor do they turn up ground along fence lines very well! i do have a ripper...but no tractor big nuff to pull it right now as my 7080 took a dump! and until i find a big tractor again....i'll keep plowing certain areas...that i need to! old fashioned?? maybe...but it still works!!

I have an oliver drag plow with trip bottoms on it and I had it stick a bottom. Ended up sledge and pb blaster because the trip was all rusted up, works good now.
As far as the moldboard goes, right now its all I have, I want to get a 4 bottom for the 185, but I have more interest in a no-till drill than a chisel.
I have a 185 Allis, 6060 Allis, Model K gleaner, SMTA ferg 35, ferg 20 (paps first tractor, Allis B (wife's)John Deere 240 skid loader and a bunch of the usual farm stuff.
