Hey everyone, I have a question that I know has been covered here before but I can't remember what all was discussed. I would like to replace the shares on my 3 bottom snap coupler plow, numbers on the moldboard : " No. 24 R.H. 309215 " , numbers on the share itself : " 308861 SC Allis Chalmers ". Can any of these numbers be used to find new shares somewhere or am I going to be better off to try to build them back up by welding? Thanks for any input, Sean.

Based on the plow bottoms book on line at http://www.grandpastractor.co/phpBB3/index.php that share fits the three incarnations of the 24 plus the 124. 14" right hand.
Share numbers that also fit are: 308861 is soft center steel, 323654 is soft center steel full cut deep suck, 308864 is solid steel, 308880 is solid steel narrow cut deep suck, 308879 is solid steel narrow cut common suck, 309234 is chilled iron narrow cut stony, 309235 is chilled iron narrow cut deep suck, and 308867 is a plain share of chilled iron. Then for the 24 with a welded draw rod bracket there's also the 309270 solid steel narrow cut stony. The same list fits the 124 14" R.H. bottom. At least the share you have is steel and so will take welding better than the chilled iron shares. These shares mount with one bolt at the rear and have a pin that hooks the front of the frog and a hook bolt in the bolt hold mid way down the share. That hook bolt has a separate part number, 308818. I think the deep suck shares had a long turned down nose while the regular shares were pretty straight. I don't have any shares to share nor a source. Except for the mounting I'd be searching for shares with a similar nose angle hoping to adapt by grinding or welding. With the list of shares that will fit there is a slight chance some one has some somewhere in the world. Gerald J. |

Smokey, go down load that plow bottoms book and peruse it for a few months. Start from the index with a known part number.
Besides those plow share types for the 24 and 124, some bottoms have "economy" shares. There are F.C.D.S. N.C.D.S, N.C.C.S. and stony at least. F stands for Full, the first C stands for Cut, the trailing S stands for Suck, D for deep, C probably for common and there are more that I don't remember right now. One thing about AC plows, they were capable of much customization. 4 or 5 different plow frames with fixed or adjustable width, for 1 to 7 bottoms, and optional trip shanks, with the same frame hitching to SC, three point, or on wheels, and a couple dozen bottom styles with different shapes and angles, some with shins, some without shins, in widths from 10" to 16" (and later 18") slatted or solid, with landsides from practically nothing to 26" long, left and right hand. I suppose one took a right hand plow frame and fipped it upside down and remounted the shanks (they all bolt together) for a left hand bottom. That's not mentioned in my plow frames book (also available at that same reference) though double sided plow frames are. Then there were at least half a dozen flat and nearly that many curved coulters that fit most every plow and a few jointers as well. The stock plow order blank must have had half a page of options, more than a tractor or combine. All those options make it difficult to identify bottoms and plow frames for certain. Gerald J. |
