I have a early 57 D 17 down to it's under ware and have a reading of .002 plastigage reading on no. one rod cap. I don't have a reference - is this good bad or maybe for bearings?

Check the center main bearing !! especially between the #2 and #3 arms. That's where they wear !!

Thanks, Dr A - I was not going to check the main until I saw your post. It is also .002 like the first rod cap - I assume that is also within specks and not in need of replacement?

Mains are .0014- .0035 so your good. I did a engine in a red tractor that was just one main was bad. I wasn't going to check all the bearings but at the last minute decided to. Good thing because I saved the customer some big money
