Our local guy that produces hundreds of dozens of ears of sweet corn started planting today. He is using a IHC air planter and his JD tractor. It looks like he planted 20 acres today. I've gotta fill the hydraulic system on my old skid loader, unload the plow off the trailer and plow up my 1 acre so we can plant some as soon as possible.

If I get the garden worked up today or tomorrow I'll probably plant a couple of rows. Early planting last year didn't do very well as it turned off old for quite a while. I hope he's getting a better deal on his seed then I get, 20 acres would be expensive to plant. Of course at 5 or 6 bucks a dozen it would pay back pretty good.

Have our first row of 12 planted, as have tater and wife's Decorative Colored Kernal corn planted.
Damn tiller died on me yesterday morning as tried to extend garden. Ran fine to till up the first four rows so expected same a week later, No Dice. Inspected the 5hp Horizontal shaft Briggs(Only 45+ years young) to find popping back in intake, Pulled plug, Air in Cylinder and blows out intake no matter crank position(No Compression resistance either). Buddies boroscope told all, Int Valve thought was stuck open, also had what appeared a Nick in the margin turned out Burnt or cracked slit. Then second look after bought a replacement Tiller showed NEITHER valve moves Up or Down, either cam gear or camshaft failure. Had been on Briggs parts guide for this engine this winter to repair carb, Many if not Most Parts are coming up NLA. So called small engine shop here, where he called Briggs. Seems as was a Custom Order Engine bolting and Crankshaft position for Troy Built in late 70s to early 80s, NO Briggs Current Design to replace. He was considering a Chinese knock off to repair this at $450-$600 for one but likely to need major adaptation to make work. Sadly a New Yardmax Briggs powered similar rear tine tiller, $750 at Rural King. Need a Tiller not another project so bought the replacement. Can monkey with the old one later, and find out if would stop at $600 or was money ahead with new and the 45+ year old machine scrap.
