I was working getting things ready for winter and thought I'd take a couple pics of my two kerosene tractors. The WD45 is the pretty one on the right.

He will work his tractors, they are not just toys.

3 WD45's with power steering,G,D15 fork lift,D19, W-Speed Patrol, "A" Gleaner with a 330 corn head,"66" combine,roto-baler, and lots of Snap Coupler implements to make them work for their keep.

Good looking tractors Michael. Does the WD45 still make 40 HP when running on Kerosene? You just don't see many of these anymore that weren't converted over.

Dave, I never put it on a dyno but I reused the old original low compression pistons so it is a dog compared to the 45 gas. The guy I got it from always regretted that they bought the distillate but kept it anyway.

Very interesting. I was never around one. Just always heard stories about the old JD's starting on gas then switching to kerosene.

Funny to think about, we're complaining how expensive gas is. Back then they were complaining about expensive gas. So much that they sacrificed a little bit of power to run cheaper fuel.

My B had kero pistons in it until this summer. I always knew it was a kero tractor because it has the starter gas tank and a "K" in the engine serial number, but I figured it had been overhauled before. Nope! Still had all standard bearings with A-C numbers, and the low compression pistons. 
Has a lot more power with the CA flat tops in it!

Why do you have to have low compression for kerosene?
Also, why does that WD45 have an angled under the hood exhaust pipe? Was that just a kerosene thing?

I have an original brochure of the WD45 kerosene from 1955. It gives the horsepower at 34.0 on the belt pulley doing 1400 RPM. This would be running on kerosene of course but running the kero engine on straight gas will give a little more HP. The 201 engine with the same set up is rated at 27 HP on the pulley.
Currently- WD,WC,3WF's,2 D14's B. Previously- I 600,TL745,200,FL9,FR12,H3,816 LBH. Earth has no sorrow that Heaven cannot heal!

The kerosene manifolds have the exhaust heating the intake loops and this way the smoke comes out on the side. The kerosene vapour has to be very hot for the engine to run well. That little stub of an exhaust pipe will be enough noise for sure if you're ploughing all day or doing other hard work. Our tractor still came with a full height spark arrest muffler and two steel rod supports down to the hood. Working one of these tractors hard by the hour would have the manifold red from heat.

Eric, Allis did some odd stuff with the distillate tractors. My WD has a muffler which is correct by the parts book, but when the 45k came out, prior to a certain serial number which fortunately the parts book shows, they went back to the side discharge. All the he other known 45K tractors are later and have mufflers.
