Im kinda new to P pumps and planning putting a prostock together with a 426 engine, but gonna resleeve it for 466 with hardened rods: class is 9500 lbs, 3000 rpms,3
.o inlet on turbo and water is allowed, my question is what a good pump to look for? I can change the front plate and all that just not real familar with big pumps Edited by DougG - 06 Jul 2014 at 10:46am |

the front plate just needs machined out to accept the lager pump im guessing, im a 301 guy and depends on how much fuel and class rules here its a-pumps and P-pumps depends on set up and weight inter cooler or not in a limited pro

Get everything else done first and buy your fuel system and turbo last. Technology on these pieces changes all the time and they are the most important power making items.
My buddy uses a Bosch P3000 from a John Deere tractor (40 series?) They have a nice governor for pulling. All the innards will need to be replaced with good stuff - cam P's and B's etc. I would not use anything but 13mm plungers. Easier to hang a "P" pump on a 7000 series or newer block versus a D21- 210-220 block.

Mounting a P-pump on a 426 will require you to cut one mounting "ear" off the pump so it will fit.

Here's one im working on. Cut the ear off and had the drive hub made from a hub off the newer roosamaster.

I have heard you can reduce the O.D. of the pumps front bearing support to fit the stock hole in an Allis plate. This could be an option if you don't have a way to bore the plate and keep it on center. You have to clearance the front plate and timing cover for the rack cap on the front of the pump also. Be sure to build a brace at the rear of the pump which ties the pump to the engine pan rail bolts or something solid toward the rear of the pump to keep it from moving. All of this work should be done before the pump is built(obviously).
