Anybody have an opinion on a Long 610? My FIL has one for sale and I wanted to get opinions on them. The engine was completely rebuilt about a year ago and has been run 30 to 40 hours since. Rear tires are 60% and fronts are 95%. No rust to speak of. It's about 65 pto hp and has 1 remote. No ROPS or cab which to me is a negative and would be changed if I could find something. It has rear weights. He's asking $5500. I havn't talked with him yet so I don't know how firm he is. I've driven it once and it seemed like a decent tractor but I've never been around Longs so I don't know. What do y'all think? I'd probably use it for brush hogging and to run a JD 1209 moco and a NH 273 baler.

Interesting, a tractor with my name and I cannot tell you anything about it.
I believe they were made and primarily sold in the south. We saw the literature but since they were not in our area or a direct competitor we did no research. Perhaps someone else can. Does not sound bad. Good Luck! Bill Long |

I don't think so. I think they're the farmtrac line now. To tell you the truth I don't know if farmtrac is still around either. There were a few 310's and 360's around here but this is the first 610 I've seen. My FIL had another 610 and he has always said he wished he'd kept it.

Well we made a deal today. $3500, pay when I can and if his kubota breaks down he has access. Pretty fair deal I think

I appears that it was made by the same company that made the AC 5040. Having said that, I don't see where it has an engine or much else in common with the 5040.

They were made by utb. My father had a 560 and now has a universal 610 4wd. Good tractors over all. One thing to keep in mind is the PTO is a European setup. The lever on the left side of trans case that picks up is the PTO lever. But when in the off position (up) its putting pressure on bearings that will wear. There is a little lever on top of trans case almost under seat that u put in middle position and takes the PTO outta gear then u can put PTO lever back in the on (down) position. It's like the PTO disconnect on like a 6080. Do this if your not gonna use the PTO for a while. If u have any questions just ask glad to help

Thanks 243. I thought the pto lever was a bit strange.

The Long strikes me kinda funny because it has 2 cylinder heads. It's basically 2 2 cylinder engines. |

No problem. They are good tractors and pretty good on fuel. The 560 which is the next model smaller will run a 9ft haybine all day long on less than 5 gal of fuel. The 610 universal my father still has is just about as good. Another thing is the lower draft links on the 3pt are very long. If using a 3pt equipment ur gonna wanna find a long top link.

Looks like you did good. Long Agribusiness also sold the FarmTracs. I have a FarmTrac 35 which so far has been a decent tractor but it has less than 200 hours. It is a Ford knockoff made in India so i refer to it as a Hindu Ford. Some of the FarmTracs were made in Romania and your Long definitely looks Romanian. Parts availability will probably be a problem for either one.

Surprisingly, there is a website called longparts.com and that's exactly what they have. I thought it would be a problem also but so far I've found 3 or 4 places to get parts. There's another called import tractor (I think).
243, the arms on this tractor were extremely long but my FIL had his neighbor cut about 5 inches off and weld the ends back so they match the shorter (standard I guess) top link. I didn't know if they were a custom thing or if all these tractors were made that way. Doesn't really make sense to me but, then again, there's a list of things that don't make sense to me. |

I think the longer 3 point is just a European stand as a posed to the Ford standard used in the USA the pasquali I have is itilian and it has longer 3 point arms as well.

Long tractors are good tractors, I had a long 900 70 hp. It was sweet, never needed any thing for it.

No different than what Minneapolis Moline did. Their 6 banger had three cylinder banks. |

My pasquali 988 has a two cylinder air cooled diesel at 35 Hp and that is the same way looks like you took two 1 cylinder motors and stuck them together. I wondered if this was someone trying to design a more scalable motor just keep adding more units until you get the power you want.

Could be Dan. I also noticed this tractor doesn't seem to sit as high as others in the same power range. If I understand correctly, Europe is quiet hilly. Could this be the reason or am I looking into it to far? I'm ok with the lower stance as we have some decent grades around here. Were the Fiat built AC's the same way? |

The pasquali is an an orchard tractor and it is wicked low to the ground. You are right that it is designed that way for hills and getting under trees. Just makes it alot more stable. Mine has a loader and looks like and over grown 4 wheeler. It is way better in my barn then a skid steer. It is so narrow it will go almost anywhere the bucket is smaller but if I can get through the tight old barn I will make a few more trips.

Every one of that size have the longer lower links that I have seen. They don't sit any lower than say an ih 674 which would b about same power and size and age. Good luck with the long.

Zetor has a separate head for each cylinder. When I was looking at a few locally, the nearest dealer said it was in case just one cylinder had a problem you didn't need to disassemble any more than that. Maybe...
Here's a website that may help with your decision making process; spoiler alert, he highly recommends the 2WD 610: http://www.importtractorparts.net/buyersguide.html |

Deutz aircooled motors had separate heads, cylinders. Made them easy to fix, just unbolt the airhouse, then you could take off a single head or cyl...

Long was suceeded by FARMTRAC and has been out of business in the US for several years, was based in North Carolina. They had several manufacturers from different parts of the world, one was made by Mitsubeshi in the far east. Do a search on tractordata.com and you will see several models. No one in my area will touch one any more for any price, parts are hard to get or non-existant here.
