I have a 7 ft Bush Hog brand. I really like it. They are a very tough machine. It has seen a lot of forearm sized tree trunks and still keeps cutting. Here is something to think about ...... I have a friend that is a Bush Hog regional sales rep and he still went out and bought a Land Pride cutter. He says the gear boxes are better and an overall better machine.

I pull a 10' woods 121 with my 6060 and i love the job it does there are bush hogs and then there are BUSH HOGS!light weight, med weight, and heavy duty what are you going to be cutting, this would be more important than size if david G has been cutting arm size saplings with a 7' bush hog brand, he must have an 06 series bush hog. these are monsters that run 100 hp box's and are the ones that made bush hog famous they started life as a 206 model and are currently marketed as the 406, i have a 6' 306 and it has worn out several tractors they still build the HD06 series in single box units and there is no comparison to the squealer line of bush hog brand rotary mowers i also like john deere mowers but again it is about what you intend to do with it you put a light weight hog in heavy stuff it will not last long blade tip speed will vary by manufacturer as well, faster is better i personally would rather have a big 7' cutter with one box than a 8 footer with two less parts to maintain i also own a old trail type howse hd 10 footer but i can not recomend it in anything heavy i picked it up used for $400, as a back up, that is the only reason i have it Limestone rocks will kill any of them

agree with ky wonder...we bought an old 6 ft. bush hog squealer used 15 years ago and that thing is bullet proof...it has had the heck beat out of it and it is still going strong. on the other hand we bought a basically new 10ft bush hog 2510 model to lightly cut set aside acres and it has been nothing but trouble. We have gone through 3 gear box's. I'm looking at going to a fifteen ft. landpride myself.

I just went over 100 hours on my "new" 3pt mounted Bush Hog 3008. I like it, it cuts much better than the JD MX8 it replaced, is about a foot shorter so the front end of my 175D isn't in the air as much....and seems to pull easier.
I haven't used a Landpride 8' yet...but I have bought 3 of the six footers over the years and have had good luck with them.
I like the twin spindle 8' over the single 7' because it is a lot shorter and doesn't scalp nearly as bad. It also mulches the grass more and spreads it out where a single spindle cutter has a tendency to windrow to one side. I get comments all the time on how great a field looks when I'm done...even the next day LOL! I get a kick out of seeing these uneven scraggly looking fields that have been cut by a single spindle machine.

Woods Brush BUll or an X06 series Bush Hog If you really want to get serious look at a Schulte, hold your pocketbook, but now that is a mower.

Eldon, how do you keep the front end of that 175 on the ground with the 3008? My 180 got light using mine so I added ballast at first then a 500 series loader to counterbalance the machine.

I think Eldon said he has a full set of suitcase weights out the front. That is a fine looking setup Eldon has there.

I understand fully Eldon, they are great mowers. I used ours to clear off a field(5 acres) of wild plums from 1-3" in diameter and at least 12 feet tall but in groves of 3-6" apart. Used the PD as a hand clutch and eased up over clumps until the machine was done chewing then moved on, took a day but was worth it! Mine has the mulching shields on it and man does it mulch!
My 180 has no weight in the front tires and I couldn't locate a suitcase weight set or the bracket to hang them so I opted to the loader. I can pull on the trailer with/without the loader but it does get a bit light without! so I would drag the mower until I had the tractor crowning over.
