Topic: Order Of PostsPosted: 30 Nov 2009 at 11:15am |

Change is fine with me if it is for the better. My problem is that the sort order is illogical.
The current order allows people who "don't want to address nuthin'....." can keep a post on top. This is one thing I addressed earlier.

Why don't we address your complaints?

I think that a feature needs to be added to allow a sort like the old forum, by original posts.

I agree with you Joe, The old forum was much more user friendly than what we have now. Another case of new not necessarily being better. With the old forum posts always stayed in the order that they were posted, now by the time I scroll though and go to a post to read it and get back to the list the posts are shuffeled again, this is very annoying. The old way the replies were listed with the person repling and you could scroll though and see if there was anything worth looking at in a jiffy. The ones that like the new way, I'll bet are on a high-speed connection of some type. I am unable to get high speed where I live unless I want to pay a ransom for a sattlite connection. Also if thare were separate places for "Wanted" & "For Sale" items they could be perused in an efficent manner without having to wade through everything else. Unfortunely I guess like many other things in life, we are stuck with what we have before us.

Man I just cannot believe all the non progressive/regressive mind sets out there.
It is time to get with the times, pony up and move on.

I find that when I want to submit a reply to a post, that I must hit the "back" tab several times to get back whereI was at. This is after I hit POST REPLY. I post a WANTED post 3 days ago and didn't get a reply, which is highly unusual. I think it just moved too fast and got missed. Bob |

All you have to do is log in. When you return to the site, it will remember you without you having to do anything.
If you hit "new posts" it will show you only the threads that contain posts that you haven't read. If you hit the arrow at the right of the thread's title, it will show you only the posts that you haven't already read in only the topics that have new posts since you saw them last.
There is a list box that will show you the posts of specific time periods of your choosing in the recent past. There is a search function that will find you the threads containing phrases of your choosing.
There are catagories that seperate the topics. About the only thing it doesn't have is a bellyaching and whining filter... which could be something to look into....
What specifically doesn't it do that you want it to do? Or is it that you want it to stay as you are used to using it, instead of you making any kind of effort to learn or understand what it does do?
Go back and do all your posting on the old forum if you can't or won't learn to use the new one. http://www.allischalmers.com/forum/forum_list.aspx Edited by realolman - 26 Nov 2009 at 10:51am |

Was looking for the post for the AC book the other day for a friend and tried to do it without using the search box, well then remembered that part and had the information in a flash.
The book seller in St Cloud MN came through for him with no problem and he ordered the AC Story from him. Also No shippong chanrge as he said he had seen post on here .

It also keeps anoying topics near the top
If you only check the posts occasionally, there is no rhyme or reason to the order.
I REALLY HATE THE NEW FORMAT.

Keep up the good work!

Joe, The root of the problem lies in the fact that the Original Post Date is not a selectable field in the page layout. If the structures were arranged to accomodate a column for this data element, then your request would be able to be realized.
However, this is "canned" software, and Darin is no longer in control of the source code and the tables. If you really feel that it would be an improvement, write to Web Wiz Software and ask them to include the functionality in the next release. I'm sure Darin would have configured this option when he set the new forum up, if it was at all possible. Glenn |

GBACBFan, Thanks that did work fine. Ya, I'm afraid I'm not giving this new site enough time. But thats the problem, I don't have as much time lately as I am working 12 to 14 hour days. Thanks again

Bob, just go to the upper middle/right word search, click it and type in 'combine accident'. The post is right there to click on to see in total. If you play with it a bit, you're really gonna like it.

I would also like to thank Darrin. I have already learned more than I would have ever learned any other way on this site. But I also agree with others and don't like the way the posts come up. I personally don't like it and don't come on here near as much as in the past. I know that nobody cares if I'm on here or not but I enjoyed the site much more when the posts were arranged the old way. Now when I get the time to get on here, it seems I'm always looking at the same old posts. As a point, I saw the pictures of the combine/pick up accident and was telling a friend, he wanted the pictures.....well, can't find them....waaayyy gone ! I guess I just don't have time to make this new site work for me. And I also would agree that several feel the same way. I used to see some names on here every day and now almost never see them. Please know,I'm not bashing, still a great site. Just doesn't work for me as well as the old site.

I have to agree with Joe, Dick L and Royal. The organization is lacking bigtime because the order is always resorted due to # of posts per thread. Thus, it is harder to look up older topics. On the old forum you could always guess about what page a certain thread may be located on. The prefixes to designate questions, for sale, wanted, and the like were great on the old forum.
What has happened with the show registry link? Has that been replaced with something on the new format?

I have always disliked the new forum because I cannot just look through the latest posts until I come to the ones I have already seen. Quite frankly I have lose interest since this forum changed to the new format. Just my 2 cents worth. Royal

How would you do it?
I signed in. It recognizes me every time I come here... I don't have to sign in again.
When I hit "new posts", it shows me all of the threads with new posts since the last time I've been here.... this site is reletively busy. I was surprised. I show up about twice a day and there's usually 2-3 pages of threads w new posts.
I think it's fine... pretty much like most of the other forums I've ever seen.
I could never figure out what was going on with the old site.

When I click on a topic then hit the back button, it always goes back to where I left off on the list. That is how it has always been for me.
