What's everyone's opinions on A.C. planters when they were New back in the day? I worked for a fella that had one ,don't remember the model but it seemed to work good, it wasn't a no till, they spent hours in a One Eighty with a 10 ft disc getting the seed bed ready!

When new they were very good. Allis put notill farming where it is today. The problem with the Allis today(even all brand plate planters) is that the seed companies no longer grade seed as well as they did years ago. This makes it harder to get a good stand when using a non plateless planter. Deere passed Allis in planters when the 7000 came out. The closing wheels are a much better design than the Allis with a single rib. I planted lots of corn and beans with an Allis 600 and a 333 4 row notill planters but not sorry that we upgraded to a Deere 7200. Tom

I totally agree with Tom. Now a Deutz Allis 385 when properly set up and maintained can run right along with the newer planters. Ryan

Don't know about the 7200 Deere but the 7000 was no match to the Allis air champ planter. After two years of side by side planting my uncles finally agreed that the Allis planter did the best job. This year the Deere planter was sold (long over do) and my uncles decided to get in to something new so they bought a White 6600 which also out performed the Deere 7000.
Thanks & God Bless

Dennis

I had just the opposite experience Dennis had. Side by side the Deere does a better job. Around me nearly all the corn is planted with a Deere regardless if it's pulled by a green, blue, red, or orange tractor.
