Local Mfg has nice concrete tank I would rather use but they are $800 for 300 gal. So I improvized....
Also this is the spring with least output so if I can use it 8 months out of the year I'll be happy... Set the tank in gravel then poured concrete around PVC coupling... Overflow pipe is removable and will be cut to 1" below tank top edge.... Enjoy the photos. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Edited by Macon Rounds - 28 Apr 2024 at 6:47am |

This was February 2023.
This hillside had no less than 10 small spring outcroppings... I pealed back the top soil. Dug and daisy chained gravel and perforated pipe at the springs to solid to capture water. Good output in early months just had a trickle ladt August. ![]() ![]() ![]() Edited by Macon Rounds - 05 May 2024 at 4:48pm |

Macon... i was a little lost by this photo of the water pool in the BIG PIPE/ TANK.... i guess it fills up and then OVERFLOWS thru the 4 inch white PVC pipe to discharge? So the BIG PIPE always has a full TANK ?
------------ reading back, i think thats what you were describing 3-4 posts UP from here.. I didnt understand what you were doing i guess... So how do you USE the water at that point ?

. I assume you are grabbing free garden irrigation? I have a leaky hillside too. First step was installing a French Drain (see YouTube French Drain Man channel for idea improvements) because it made the yard soggy and the drive an ice rink. Second step was creating a pocket at the water source, lined with landscape fabric and "egg rock" with a standing PVC pipe cut with narrow "well point" slots. Landscape fabric wraps all the rocks "like a burrito". Overflow goes down the pipe and out the creek, but if I need garden water I just pump the hand pump at the top of the pipe. Not sure of your elevation, but water will sit back in the pipes all the way to the height of your ceramic tower where it overspills. Maybe a problem, maybe not. .

Only a problem if line is above the frost line, full of water.

this is what jvin was elluding to ... If the "stand pipe" sticks up too far above the surrounding ground, it will cause water to backup on the uphill side and soak the ground... to the level of the "overflow pipe"..
hopefully that is a small / minimal spot... you just cant tell from the photos.. ![]() Edited by steve(ill) - 16 May 2024 at 5:59pm |

This is what we call a spring development here in western Pa.
Collect the water from spring or springs on the hillside and plumb them into a holding tank. This one will be used for livestock watering.... I used solid pipe going up the hill to an elivation well above the stand pipe in the water tank. Water coming up out of the ground from the hillside should be 54 degrees. So 54 degree running water in a pipe above the frost line should not freeze.... The 4" stand pipe is also removable for cleaning and flushing the tank.... However this is my first attempt so I am sure improvements will be made to the next one i make.. Hope you all enjoy the photos and I really appreciate the suggestions.
