 Topic: One Seventy 3 pt arms stay up all the time

Howdy, 1967 one seventy gas, start the tractor and 3 pt arms go up all the way. I can get them down by turning the rate of rise screw on the spool and pushing down on the arms but come right back up after letting go! Tried all positions on the levels but no reactions. I thinking something in spool stuck?

Howdy Mack, Sure seems too, I don't have the arms on with the rod going to linkage, would that just happen to cause arms to stay up?

It's not the (Traction Booster or Position Control) lever that sticks. It's the valve that it activates that sticks. If the valve sticks in, you can move the lever freely, since the valve that it moves is stuck in. The sure way to find out if this valve is stuck is to see if the three point arms will drop when the engine is off. If they do drop, put the hydraulic lever that activates the three point hitch in the middle (neutral) position and start the engine. If the arms go up slowly, the valve is stuck in.

Luckily, I never had to take it apart. I sprayed it with Kroil and let it set for a couple days. Then I tapped it lightly and I was able to get it to pop out.

It's probably not the valve itself. Most likely it's the actuator lever which operates the spring loaded valve spool. I had the same problem. The position and draft levers also freeze up on their spacer bushing.

Howdy, All levers are free! The arms go up when I start the tractor. The only way the arms go down is by turning out the little lock pin lever on the back end the spool that lowers the arms. Just below where the rubber caps are. You can do what ever you want to any of the levers any time tractor running or not it dont lower the arms! Now I must have something different wrong with this problem. Really appreciate the help.

Take the shortest spool cover off back of valve. It has a bolt and stop on end. It should be all the way in against stop to lower. If not it is stuck or linkage that pushes it in is stuck. MACK

Howdy, Mack took spool cover off, pushed in and out, put back together, no go. Took off again took plunger out this time, put back in, its a go. First couple times 3 pt arms wanted to come up slow but after working up, down arms work like they should. Start tractor arms stay down, pull lever back, up they come, push lever forward with weight on arms, down they go. No rust at all in plunger but yellow fluid even after changing fluid. Bought this tractor late winter so don't know history. Thank you and rest of fellows for great help.

The little arm in front of that spool needs freed up. Next time you pull something with 3pt arms will come up unless linkage is freed up. MACK
