Seeing advertising on tv on these, had a truck stop the other night, told them we butcher,, oh my what a deal they can make,, gotta get these sold for new inventory,, will make you a great deal,, the driver was talking it up, finally said what you got for such a great deal? A skinny dude of color steps out saying how great this sale would be,, they showed us a few dry packed pieces of meat and politely said no and not interested at all,, these guys were a joke along with the meat,,

I used to work with a guy that bought a couple of them one evening. He said he cooked them when he got home and they were tougher than jerky

I haven't in a long time......well, in fact, I have never bought them, however, company I used to work for would give Omaha gift certificate for attaboys, which I was the recipient of several times. I always thought they were great, had no problems at all.....now I'm hankering for a steak

The Omaha steaks are good, my neighbor has given me a Christmas gift box for the past two years. But for the difference in price I will go to the locally owned grocery store that cuts their own meat. As far as I know the real Omaha steaks are not sold out of the back of a truck. Had some similar dudes come by the house a couple of years ago with a freezer in the back of a pickup with a "great deal." When they couldn't produce a valid Department of Agriculture permit I called the local law and they hauled arse, have not seen them around the area since.

They used to come around the shops in town. Had the freezer inside a Chevy van. I never bought anything from them, saw their stuff thawd out. It looked like tough old grass fed meat. But you know looks can be deceiving. They were coming thru town for 4 or 5 years. This was at least 15 Years ago, I haven't seen them in years.

Omaha steaks are very good and you are correct they are not sold out of the back of a truck. Those freezer boys are fly by night and work an area for so long then just disappear.

I have in the past bought Omaha steaks. They used to send a refer truck around to military bases. the truck was Omaha steaks truck with their employees in it. it came around twice a year and only sold on base. the driver said they went to three bases a week then back home for the weekend. The steaks I got were very good. but were also pretty expensive. I think we paid $200 for a box of steaks. that was a lot of money back in the mid 80's.

6-8 years ago I went looking for something unique as a giveaway in my oilfield equipment sales job.
Called and chatted, specifically about mailers and phone calls as I considered just having them drop shipped to my customer's home addresses. Decided against it and had them shipped to me. On a 100+F day, surprised to come home and find them at the front door, packaged tightly in styro chest/dry ice. Stick em' in my freezer and I would then deliver them by meeting my customer within a few days, close to when they left for work and never heard of any spoilage. That was the good, how they packaged them. The bad? Cuts were TINY. Mailers? These guys kill plenty of trees as the mailers to my place were non-stop with "money saving offers". Even sent me free steaks to keep me ordering and it all turned into a major PITA. Then they started calling me to get me to order and we were done. I would never buy them for myself, local butcher can do much more quantity for that kind of money. Tasted good, but not for that amount of money. |

we lost our good meat butcher in our town (thanks a lot wally world) PffffT! he knew how to cut beef/pork/birds/sheep. was in a grocery store. the funny thing was, the meat he'd turn down off the truck went to Bakers/Hyvee/Walmart/Sams, and other larger stores. was looking at the meat at wally world the other night, they're meat (steaks) are all cut about a 1/2 inch thick. seems to me they would cook up like shoe leather. Omaha steaks started getting their meat from a meat/locker out of I think Snyder NE. was locally grown in that area. the business got so big that that locker couldn't keep up with the orders. then Om Steaks started sourcing out for more meat. they are not as good as they were years ago. the city bots and hog noses think they are the only place to get good meat, only because it costs a lot more than other places. kinda like the water thing. we can turn on our faucet for a glass of water or we can drive to town and buy a bottle of it that came from who knows where and drink that! bet a lot of you didn't know that we are buying water from china!
