I was in the town of Blooming Praire Mn the other day. It got me thinking about all the little towns that had implement dealers at one time.
As a kid I remember most towns had at least one brand of dealerships. I’d go with my dad and pick up literature for every tractor or combine they had.
Of course my favorite was Allis-Chalmers. But, they were all fun to visit.

Our family has a long history of owning Allis Dealerships. I will have to ask my great uncle where this dealership was but this was the first dealership we had. We also owned a dealership in Deer Park, WA through the 50's.

In Beemer Ne, there was a dealership called "Beemer Implement" 0f all things. Their main brand was Allis Chalmers. however, they sold other brands, like Artsway, Owatonna, and David Brown. They did rather well. Sold alot of tractors, etc.
(I might have told this story before....)
The owner was a cigar-chomping man by the name of Tony Schlickbernd. In the display area, they had just gotten in some lawn tractors. IIRC there was a B12 with a hydraulic loader on it.
There was also a new D15 parked in-line right in front of it.
There was an open house and trying to impress the crowd with the best that AC had to offer, ol' Tony hopped on the B12, cranked it up and giving it a little gas, he attempted to lift the back end of the D15. No go! So, he goes full throttle and tries again and looks like it's gonna lift it.... Boom! the engine goes dead.
Found out there wasn't any oil in the engine.
After cussing out the factory for that slight omission, Tony sheepishly creeps off to his office. Took him quite a while to live that down.

There used to be 4 dealerships in the town I went to Osceola Iowa. There was Allis, IHC, Ferd, Massey, JD and a couple of short line realerships.
The little old town I grew up by had a Ferd dealership. The Case dealer was 13 miles west of Osceola in the town of Murray Ia. Murray probably never had over 500 people on it. Hummeston Ia, another little town had an AC dealership and Chevy dealeship, again probably never had over 500 people in it. New Virginia IA had an Allis dealership again probably no more than 500 people in it. Leon Iowa had AC, IHC and Deere. All gone now except the JD dealer in Leon Iowa.

It is a shame all of the small mom and pop dealerships are gone. Back when I was a kid there were three different Deere dealerships within 40 miles of here, an Allis dealer, a Massey dealer a White dealer, a couple of IH dealers and a Ford new Holland dealer, all family owned.
All of them are gone except two of the Deere dealerships that are owned by a big company that has bought up most of the John Deere dealerships in VA and one Cash IH dealer that is owned by a big dealership up in PA that has bought up all of the Case IH dealerships in eastern VA.

Blooming Prairie used to have an IH dealer and Deere dealer too. Deere was first to go then IH then Allis in 1997 or so. Happens the Allis dealership in Blooming Prairie is where I worked a short 4 years back in the early 1990's.
I know a fellow with the last name of Forgarty. From the Chatfield area.

The dealership in Humeston was started by my great uncle Warren Exley. He was approached by A-C to start a dealership, but according to family history he mainly did it to be able to buy the machinery he needed at cost to farm with. He sold it after just a few years and farmed full time. The one in New Virginia I forget his name, but he ended up selling cars for Wil Reisinger at Anchor Motors in Osceola.
