Do I have to be tied to a 'cloud' account? If not, how do i disassociate from them. In one case the laptop came set up for it, and in my 11 year old desktop Norton set it up and I hae since parted company with them, but cannot undo the cloud connection.

Ha! I just figured out how to resolve the laptop issue, next, on the the mess Norton left me.

I am still confident of this;
I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.
Wait for the Lord;
be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord. Ps 27

step 1 'uninstall Norton
 step 2 find the Norton 'folder' and DELETE it
step 3 empty recycle bin

step 4 do all this again  a month from now after Norton 'magically' updates and reinstalls itself......

BTW I use the free AVAST as my  antivirus, past 7-10 years ,whenever I got WIN10 on this machine.

I agree with Jay... it has been a LONG TIME since NORTON was beneficial.  It has degraded into it's own flavor of 'junkware'.

Remember one thing:  There is no 'cloud'.  Whatever people think they're saving to 'the cloud'... is actually just 'saving to someone else's computer'.  If you have any private documents, anything you want specially secure, if you save it to 'the cloud', you're basically handing it to thousands of people you will NEVER know.
Ten Amendments, Ten Commandments, and one Golden Rule solve most every problem. Citrus hand-cleaner with Pumice does the rest.
