I changed oil in my 45 and now my oil pressure is lower. I removed a Baldwin T300M and put on a Wix filter. I looked at the Wix before I bought it and it looked correct. What do you guys use?
I only use this tractor a few hours a year so it is years between oil changes. |

I use the Baldwin in my tractors I also only change it every 5 years or so. Most of them only get about an hour a month. Did you pull the stick out of the wix filter and make sure you didn't pull the tube out of the filter housing. I've found that what ever filter I use if it dosent have a stick to keep the packing open its problems not packed tight enough.

If you have a Wix 57011, it would be the right type filter. As Dakota Dave mentioned oil pressure will be low if the tube has come out. Packing may not be as tight in the new filter. I would think your old filter likely has more restriction as it has been in service several years from what you noted, even if it has not been a lot of hours.

The tube is in, but the filter did not have a stick, and that made me wander. I also poured some oil in it and the oil soaked in very quickly. Thanks guys. I my go get a Baldwin filter.

A new filter will have lower pressure regardless because it is clean and less restrictive until the fibers get saturated and it gathers dirt again. Is it significantly lower?

It is in the normal range. I should get a new gauge also, because I can hardly read this old one.

The filter lets 15% of the oil LEAK OFF , get filtered, and dump to sump.. The other 85% of the oil goes to the bearings, etc. If you have a OLD filter that is partly plugged with dirt, crud, etc .. it might only let 10% leak off so you would get 90% of the oil going to the bearings and that might be an extra 1-2 psi on the gauge.

Is this an old Wix filter? A few years ago, Wix sold some filters that ended up ruining a bunch of AC engines. If the filter you have has been sitting on someone's shelf for several years, it could be one of the bad ones.
