Have some leakage coming from here and was looking to replace the gasket. Have been having trouble finding just that gasket without buying a whole kit.
Can RTV gasketmaker/sealant be used here?

I failed ESP class thus it helps to know what you are working on? ![]() Assuming its a WC, WD, 45, B or C or similar engine oil filter because they are the ones prone to leaking,, Leave the blue glue in the tube, only takes about 1 minute to make that gasket from a sheet of rubberized cork using the base as a template. Most of the time you will find that the base is bent where it mates the block. The fix for that is running it over sandpaper placed on a fat surface

Easy way is to run the plate against a 200 grit belt, on a bench top belt sander, or hand file, if you are old school. What generally happens is the old cork gasket gets leaky, then the bolts get over torqued, when somebody tries to tighten, to stop the leak. As Butch says, cut a gasket, easy peasy...

Howdy Elo76, I don't use cork, seems to leak. I use a plastic top from a gallon ice cream top. Cut the gasket out of that and I had best of luck! Kurzy

When I redid the motor on my WC, I took the filter assembly off and you could see someone made the gasket out of an old old old Corn Flakes box, you could tell because it was the part of the rooster. Lord only knows how long that cardboard gasket held. I made the replacement out of the grey, 1/8" gasket material.

I used JB Weld and filled in the cavity and then filed every thing straight. Purchased some gasket material form a auto parts store and bolted it up to he block. Has not leak since.
