Been running a new to me 7040 this year, runs great with lots of power compared to my other one. This one doesn't really consume much oil considering it's an older tractor and I'm working it pretty good. so far it always seems to have some whitish steam or smoke coming from the blow by tube, but nothing excessive in my opinion.  But I noticed a few drops of oil come out, and the tube had oil in it if you stick your finger in it.

Just wondering what it could be, Runs good so hopefully nothing major. Didn;t smell it but im pretty sure it's just engine oil, don't think it had diesel in it.

Daily maintenance  includes checking the engine oil level AND the radiator coolant level. If the radiator isn't going down, there shouldn't be coolant in the oil. All those breather hoses are wet with oil on engines that work hard and have hours on them. Unless you are adding more than 2 quarts of engine oil every single day, I doubt you have anything wrong.

When I first started using my 7000 I was floored with how much was coming out of the blow by tube, and smoke from the pipe too.

I'm just a play farmer so I figured I'd just add oil a bunch.

Much to my surprise in 100 hours I have added exactly 0 oil. (Its due for an oil change) It LOOKS like it uses a lot, it doesn't use a drop.

My nephew is a diesel mechanic, he thinks maybe the previous owner cranked up the pump a bit and it's just a little fuel vapor.

Either way, it's not an issue.

Every other day at most, even then it's only maybe a pint at most.. which seems like normal oil consumption to me on a hard working diesel of that age.
Could it be possible the fuel is turned up like the other poster mentioned? This one really seems to lay out the power.
