You know how tractors have a habit of following you home? Well, an old Case 830 is following me home- I bought it yesterday, and am picking it up Sunday. First, the standard question: Is there anything I should know? From what I read, they're pretty bulletproof tractors. I was able to test drive it- everything seems fine. It is a Case-O-Matic tractor.

I also have a question regarding the hydraulics: I've read that Case used unique couplers. Are these just the John Deere style Pioneer ones, the same ones that would be on our other tractors, or are they some odd-ball end that needs adapters, and if so, does anyone know what adapter?

We're going to use this tractor to run our grain drill, row bar, sprayer, baler, and bale wagon. It'll have a pretty easy life honestly. I'm tempted to try it on our 12 foot roller harrow, but that might be a bit much for it.

And, I know, I know- you guys want pictures. I only have one of it.

Hard telling what couplings are on it after 40- 50 years... Dont buy "adaptors"... just get a new end that fits the rest of your tractors and screw it onto the CASE pipe nipple.

Dont matter if it is Pioneer or "other"... most of they screw onto a 1/2 inch pipe.. Just get a new set.

I don't recall dads 830 needing special adapters, but that was a long time ago.  It should have no trouble at all with the 12' harrow.  Heavy loads need pulled in direct, or she'll get hot.  When the C-O-M went out on dads, he bought the very last of some parts in existence for it.  Very unique setup.  Great for loader work, but incredibly hard to shift when the oil is cold.  Fun tractor and the seat puts you in a great position to see very well.  Heads are known for cracking.  Dad did his more than once if memory serves.

Congrats on the tractor! I like these too! I think it will do fine for all those tasks and should not have a problem with the 12 foot harrow. Although I have never pulled a 12 foor harrow. I used tghe neighbors 930 std shift a lot. Loved it they dont call them a Comfort King for nothing! You will love it!

Those Case tractors are creepy. Their headlights seem to watch me working on other tractors with ill intent.

Although, a VAI would be welcome.

Great, now I'll never be able to unsee that image. I guess that's why the logo is an eagle, right?

For the price, I can't complain. It seemed to drive nicely, and for out here, $3000 doesn't usually get you a tractor at all

Must have been from a green guy WinkWink. There were/ ARE still multiple numbers of that vintage of Case tractors STILL being operated on local farms "here", sadly, more than ALLIS of that era Cry .
To the OP, I worked for a dairy farmer that ran an 830, his wasn't a COM though. It was the baler/planting tractor and gave a WHOLE lot less problems than his 1070 LOLLOL !! Nice find ClapClap
I've always thought that ALLIS and Case should have "partnered up" back in the '80's Wink !!

I've never put much into those acronyms people make up. Everyone knows things like "Found on Road Dead" and stuff like that. I've driven all kinds of vehicles though- everything from a Buick to a Mercury to three Saabs and an Audi. Buy what you want, not what someone else thinks is junk. They don't have to drive it. Wink

Everything seems to be in good shape from what I can tell on the test drive. I guess we'll find out when we go to use it. I'm picking it up on Sunday, and we'll try it out as the sprayer tractor this year, and we have a couple fields left to plant, so it'll probably pull the drill too

Out here, $3000 usually gets you something like a WD-45 or an International M if you're lucky. There just isn't much out here in the way of equipment at all, so you either end up paying a lot or ordering stuff in from 3 states away in most cases. I just lucked into this one- it was on Marketplace, and $3000 was his asking price

Our own farm ran a WD, D17, D15, D19,XT 190 and a 180 (the 100 series are still in the barn). I have personally had seat time on a CASE RC, 530, 630, 730, 830 , 870 and 1070 . IMO, the Case 530 is/was WORLDS  ahead of any ALLIS tractor of that era Embarrassed . Absolutely nothing wrong with your purchase Wink

got this on for $50.00 on big iron,, with some work and little more $$ in parts and tires, it runs and drives,, still have some work before it becomes a decent working tractor

We got it home, and off the trailer. It drives nicely, and the seller was kind enough to throw in a few boxes of parts, an extra rear tire (on a bad rim), and an extra front axle. Super nice guy to deal with. Hopefully this tractor works out in our straw business and makes us some money come fall
