I have a Massey Ferguson 2675 that has a hard starting pto.
Instead of slowly bringing up the pto speed it just kicks on. It's ripped in half a pto shaft on a 15'ft batwing mower. I was wondering if there's a clutch or something on the pto that needs replacing. Thanks for help. |

I take it that your engaging PTO at an idle. And you should bring engine to idle and let cutter or any PTO driven item slow down before turning it off also. As for ones I've been around PTO comes on quick at an idle. I don't remember or know if there is a modulating valve for it? Talk to a Massey dealer on it.
I would also be checking your Slip clutches on the cutter! As they should slip before breaking the shafts. Edited by farmtoybuilder - 08 May 2015 at 1:55pm |

I've heard that's their is a hydraulic cylinder on the pto clutch that can be adjusted but I don't know if that's true.

No cylinder on clutch pack. Have a dealer check pressures and hydraulic system out. Or if you have set of hydraulic pressure gauges, get a service manual and check it out. It has a modulating valve and relief valve. pressure is 300#'s.
