I’m sorry for the off color post, but I have had no luck with this on any of the Massey forums so I figured I’d try here.
I have an MF 2200 industrial tractor with the 2 pedal shuttle shift and hi / low two speed transmission. I decided to change the very brown transmission fluid, drained from both plugs, and ran a little bit to clear the pump. I replaced with some tractor supply fluid that said it was a match to the specified MF fluid. After the oil change, the tractor would eventually move forward, but not backward. After sitting overnight, it would move both backwards and forwards fine, so I took it for a test mow. All worked fine for about 20 minutes, then it would start to hesitate, then 'catch' and them move fine. Eventually stopped moving both ways, and I let it sit in the field overnight. next day I was able to move it to the shop, but again it would hesitate then catch and move fine. its almost like there is air in the system, or the pump is cavitating. Fluid level is fine on the stick. Any ideas? Could it be the wrong fluid? Thanks |

I would drain it and replace it with Massey oil that is called for.

The worst thing you can do to any oil pump is run it out of fluid. The "ran a little bit to clear the pump" part would make me worry about the condition of the pump. JMO
