I let dad's ole 40 sit to long without running it.

Now that brand new flat head V-8 is locked up. Can't spin it by hand anyway. I pulled the plugs and gave each hole 5 quirts of mystery oil.

Last started it in 2008. Prolly had 200 miles on thet brand new motor.
I still gots my A/C but it's clear out in the barn now.

Brother had one a 40 standard - 1 tale light on left only - delux had 2 ,
remember he got stopped by local cop - seems he had 7 people in the car
cop searched full car and found a gallon glass jug in the back with what he said was wine , (red antifreeze) was disappointed he could find nothing for a ticket - just kids having fun after school football game .

Life lesson: If you’re being chased by a lion, you’re on a horse, to the left of you is a giraffe and on the right is a unicorn, what do you do? You stop drinking and get off the carousel.

My grandfather was town cop/watchman in Carson back in the 60's. population 500.

He had 3 simple rules for them young lads.

1) 10:00 was quiet time. No ripping rubber up main Street after 10.
2) No destruction of anyone's personal property.
3) No litter lying about the town on the streets. If you need someplace to throw them beer cans drive by my house and throw em in the back of my truck.

And he never had a lick of trouble
I still gots my A/C but it's clear out in the barn now.

Les, I like your Dad's rules!!  Sounds just like my Dad.

Pull the valve cover off and pull the rockers and push rods.  That'll allow you to turn it without wrecking anything,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

I'm thinking it got some water in it and the lower end might have some problems.  How does the oil look?

Seeing as it's a fairly new motor, I'm guessing that it's the rings that are 'set'.  Pour some ATF into each sparkplug hole and leave it set for a few days and see what happens after that.

I sure hope it's something simple and you don't have to tear it all down again.  But then, you just might want to anyway.  After all, it is priceless.

Les I bought a 41 Ford that engine was rebuilt and then sat outside for 10 years I pulled the plugs filled cylinders with marvel mystery oil
Let it soak for two weeks then pulled it with tractor and popped the clutch. Motor freed up and put plugs back in and got it running. I would only do that as a last resort because when you pop the clutch it can really do some damage.

DJ, truck looks like a 1940's model though the listing says 51.
and the bottom two pics are of the same car.and looks like a 49.
They are not mine... truck is presently at 535 and the car at 202 and goes off at 7pm our time.

It will probably take more than 5 pumps to get what ever you put in all the way around the piston to soak down to the rings.
