Hello, I recently bought a 63(??) H3. On the test drive on flat land the machine moved well. It was tansported to my land which is very hilly. I see now The machine does not climb well at all nor does it push much dirt. When transporting the machine, the machine slid across a flat bed wecker and hit the side pertty hard. Is it possible the track is jammed? Brakes? What can I look at to see if there is anything stuck or out of place?

Does it drive on both tracks . so if clutch is pulled and brake applied on that side will machine move in direction of pulled clutch ?
It's a small machine and pushing more than a few yards of soft material is going to be a job for it . Also skill in operation is another factor , You take a small bite and then increase load as you move , Not try to power into what you are trying to move .

MAKE SURE THE TRANNY IS IN FIRST GEAR. THEY WILL NOT CLIMB HILL OR PUSH VERY WELL THE OTHER GEARS.

Thanks for your response. Both sides do work and function mechanically. The right is stronger than the left. I figured that was a function of age of the clutch. It was indeed in first gear when climbing and pushing dirt. Even then it seemed weak. I stalled the engine while pushing a fallen tree. It just seems like there is a drag. Is it possible that the engine is the weakness? Or if the motor timing is off? I know enough to understand only the basics. Love the machine and the idea of owning the classic. Having this resource is awesome.

It takes a lot of power to go up a hill. Your H3 is a small machine. See if it will coast downhill with the blade up. Check out the ignition system.

We have a 1968 HD3. If you have a shuttle, it is probably slipping. The only real fix is split the tractor and replace the clutch discs. I thought our steering clutches were slipping, then the engine clutch, but it turned out to be the shuttle. The clutch pack is shimmed and it is essential that the measurement of the shims is followed. Please assure that you have a copy of the Maintenance Manual as the instructions for setting up the shuttle clutch pack are there. This is the same as a Power Director clutch. I have talked to several people who have H/HD-3's sitting because of thsi issue.
