Put on 900 miles today to get my new tractor. It's a Ford Model T with a tractor conversion kit on it. I'll stick my spare engine in it and it should be ready to go. You basically remove the rear wheels and install the tag axle and braces and boom, poor mans tractor. This one has been shortened about 3 feet.

I've seen pics and read stories on them things! but was never really able to find out how much they could pull, like plows and disks? maybe they just used them to seeding and harrowing? had to be light duty stuff since it is a ford! (poke,poke)

Bugs in general are real popular at the rolog show and I see then at other shows also.  I bet they worked real good for haying thinking more the ones with rubber tires and twin transmissions.

I'm not sure what they were capable of but about all there was is horse drawn equipment at the time so I guess anything a horse can do? It should go good with the Doodlebug that I built. My bug has a Model A tranny behind the T tranny so there are lots of gears to choose from.

The 2 trannys won't get you going any faster but you have a pile of granny gears to pick from.

I have a book on model Ts. There were several variations on converting Ts to tractors. Some fairly simple, some harder like changing the axle. There was also a factor option for the TT trucks (that had a worm drive rear axle with a higher ratio so more torque to the wheels than the car axle but using the same engine and transmission up front) to add a three speed lever shift transmission right behind the standard T transmission. I have found a least half a dozen different transmissions used. The top speed of the truck was about 25 mph with the worm drive rear axle. The three speed plus reverse option gave the truck lots of slow speeds and one confusing forward gear with both transmissions in reverse.

My TT truck has the high speed (5.16:1) rearend it and my Doodlebug has the low speed (7.25:1) in it. Like you said the high speed tops out at around 25 mph and the low speed about 18 mph. My TT had a Jumbo 3 speed Transmission behind the stock one which would give you underdrive, straight through and overdrive so it would go few miles an hour faster but I removed it since I don't haul anything I didn't need the underdrive and those trannys are very noisy with straight cut gears.
