This might have already been discussed and if it has I apologize for bringing up old news, but if I heard Orin Samuelson correctly, the state of Pennsylvania is about to put into effect a new law governing tractors on the highway. If I heard him correctly it applies to equipment of certain weight minimums but I'm not sure. To operate a tractor on the highway or even cross a highway the operator must be at least 18 years old and that includes family members. The tractor operator must meet physical health rules. The tractor driver must keep a record of how long he has been operating the machine much like commercial truck drivers and the tractor must have a record of regular safety and maintenance checks and proof of such. I can't remember if there is any more. Does anybody know anything about this and what might have brought this on or is it just the usual bureaucratic nonsense. I guess they would kill over when they saw the things we used to do. I was driving a tractor at a very young age and we used to ride up and down the road hanging all over a tractor. We used to climb on tractors to add weight sometimes when it was moving something heavy. We rode up on tops of loads of hay on straight trucks and had to lay flat to dodge electric lines as they came up. We never rode in the cab. It was always a sinking feeling when you were up on top of a wagon loaded with hay or especially straw on the way to a barn and it decided it didn't want to stay loaded. It's funny that we always did things like this but then I wonder why farm accidents are high. Regardless, I think if I heard right then this is ridiculous.

I haven't heard anything on that . But why not keep a log book? keep it under the seat on a WD, let the officer (try) to read it after a rainy day! LOL

It was discussed on New AG Talk two weeks ago.http://talk.newagtalk.com/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=149513&posts=83&highlight=pa%20tractor%20log&highlightmode=1#M1069572
Looks like it will be propagated to the whole country by the feds eventually. Gerald J. |

There's no exception for antiques?
Tractors, not operators....

As I read that discussion it was based on size, very few antique tractors weigh 26,000 pounds.

It's actually anything over 17,000 lbs according to WayneIndependent.com a news site out of Wayne county Pennsylvania that did a story on tractor regs. It apparently is a move by the federal gov. to force the state to do it by threatening not to give them certain funding money. It reads as if the tractors have to be registered also.

If the tractor has auto steer how do you log in the non driving hours and what about the less than a minute it takes to turn on the end.

Who cares how big the tractor is that it regulates it is still another loss of a liberty by our wonderful gov. and what do they use to control funding.......I wish one state would tell them were to go and do without the funding.......it will only be a matter of time before it creeps down to lawn tractors having to be registered

I think if I were governor of a state and the feds pulled that sort of thing, I would say collect your own federal taxes, the state is no longer going to handle it. Like Anthony says, another bit of liberty chiped away. |

Angel, I respectfully request you bow out of this conversation. It is obvious from your statement you know nothing about farming and believe all your food comes from a shelf in the grocery. When you want to post a civil input to this thread, you are welcome back. God Bless.

Angel talks like a foreigner. That's another subject but what the hay. I've noticed alot of new doctors and lawyers are predominately non european descent. I know a doctor to be and a lawyer of which both are Pakistani. Both good people but both had huge advantages to receive education that my kids will not get. These people that I know are not loyal to the Constitution as they believe it is too old and it is wrong. They have no roots here and do not feel the need to keep our culture alive. They believe in top down government and absolutely are against state's rights. Personally they really are good people but have very different beliefs. How do you defend against that type of thinking. These will be the professors in our colleges that teach our kids the same. I really have a pessimistic view as of late. Can't help it.

Bob, we need Angel here so we can get the true nature of the beast we are up against. Mike and John and the other Bob are more like all of us. Angel is not but this type is what is in our future and they may be the boss at some point if we don't get our government back to strict constitutional law.

His first post
"Hi,I agreed with you. This law is applicable for those driver who drives roughly on street. To reduce accident the rule is compulsory. To know more on this new law you visit newlawyer.com
Thanks Lawyer Edited by Angel Thomas 2010-04-17 01:29:02 " Sounds like a foreigner newbie graduate ambulance chaser posting 'Lawyer' on here tryng to to drum biz up. The above post came from 'driving while texting' thread.
And I do agree with not texting while driving. But...more buracracey at work if it becomes law. Best the person takes the responsiblities in their own hands and not text. And if its the kids doing it, parents need to remind them sternly NO TEXTING or TALKING ON THE PHONE WHILE DRIVING!
As for the tractor thread, maybe as farmers go, it should have been law that no tractors over 150 hp ever be built. that would have kept a lot of "smaller" farmers around. But that would have been counter productive to the cheap food policies the gov was pushing for.
Best would have been no gov. involvement to begin with maybe.
