Howdy from the deserts of West Texas. Just joined, thought I'd say hello, give a little background. I'm still a young 49, don't feel a day over 75, except in the morning. Have a history with an old Allis Chalmers, and an affection for WD's. We had 80 acres when I was growing up, walked a few miles behind a WD or a 720 JD tossing hay bales on a trailer, spent many a long day on Dad's '55 WD45. He bought it in 1970, he's now 84, still has it, never been overhauled, still runs great. I think they are having a contest to see who will wear out first, him or that 45. So far, looks like the 45 is winning.
Now, I've been looking for a tractor for a while to use around my place, needed a loader, getting too old to use grunt. I was looking at a few old rags at a used tractor place here in town. All of 'em he had with a loader were overpriced at between $5-6500, with rotten/slick tires, worn front ends etc. Over in the corner behind the shop I spied a WD45 with a loader, asked him about it, and took a look. The 'ol girl is all original, including paint and decals, both of which are pretty decent considering, has new tires on the back, new muffler, the sheetmetal's straight, radiator's good, shifter's tight, so's the steering. It also has a 5' shredder on the back, and it's in good shape.
I asked what the deal was with it, the previous owner somehow shelled the gears in the rear end, and had had it fixed, good used gears and all new bearings and seals. He then decided the bill was more than it was worth and let them keep it. That was over two years ago, been sitting there ever since. The seller said it has a bad hydraulic pump, hence the three point didn't work, and the seal behind the second clutch leaked a little hydraulic oil, but not bad.
I asked what he wanted for it, he said since the three point didn't work, and he'd have to split it again to fix the seal, he just wanted his repair bill money. $1500! That included the loader and shredder, and it runs good to boot, pump and leak aside. I apologize for the long first post, but I'm tickled plumb orange.

Need a hydro pump? I have the whole section from one I parted out from the bell housing to the front of the trans. Has a hydro pump that is good as far as I know. Good wet clutch too.

Welcome aboard and good luck! You found a diamond among the coal.
Oh Yeah, with a find like that, I don't think Murphy had ANYTHING to do with it. LOL Edited by Ted J - 27 Jan 2012 at 2:49pm |
