    Posted: 24 May 2012 at 11:09am
I bought a D15 a few weeks ago. It had a noise coming from the rear end. The seller said he had an old AC mechanic look at it and it was o/k some just do that also after reading other posts saying they all are noisy I took a chance. Once I used it for a while the noise kept bothering me as you could feel the grinding coming through the seat. I then noticed the three point hitch adapter was bent like it had been hit real hard. I finally coudn't take it any longer and pulled the rockshaft housing off. Once I peeked inside a few curse words erupted from me as I realised I had been had. The pinion gear has a broken tooth and the ring gear is pitted. I assume they are no longer available new does any of you have a set of gears or know of where I can get a set not to far away? Thanks John

If no luck with others on this site go to Wengers of Myerstown. They have a used one in stock. They are not cheap. I just purchased a matched ring and pinion for my D14 from them. It arrived quickly and was in excellent condition. Hardly used at all !! Still had machining marks on the teeth.  I have had very good luck with them for hard to find used parts. Hang on to your wallet. You can also order over the net. I try to use the ones on this site first but sometimes you have to braden your search !!

Thanks I have Fawcetts in St Marys On and Ontario used tractor parts checking stock. They are both one to two hours drive. Hopefully one of them has a good set.

Fawcetts said they have a set from a CA for $225 which they said is the same? Can anybody verify that? Ontario used tractor parts are tearing down a tractor this week. They will have all the shims and snap ring from the doner tractor for $350.

You can also try Joe at Austin's Salvage in Butler, MO 660-679-4080 as I bought some parts off a D15 he has last fall. I took a few of the first pieces off it and it was pretty much complete at the time.

I can verify that the ring and pinion gear for a CA are the same as the one in a D-15. I had to put one in my D15 several years back. I went to the salvage yard and found one from a CA with the same casting number. It has been installed 7 or 8 years. (In my opinion $225 is a good price.)

Thats good to know. That means there should be a good supply out there. I thought $225 was a good price it just would be nice if they had the shims and snap ring incase I need more adjustment to get the mesh right.

Rogers did you have to get a different bearing that fit the CA shaft and the 15 bearing cup?

If you pull the mainshaft and its snap ring... Mine where wicked nasty to get out, so after I got then out I drilled tiny holes in the two ends of each snap ring to aid in reassemble (and it helped alot) or worst case, it needs done again in the furture. Of coarse with my luck all the rest of them already had holes it the ends.LOL

Picked up a good ring and pinion today from Ontario used tractor parts in Londsborough ON. Came out of a 160I forklift. Looks to be in good condition. A little wear on the pinion teeth, the side that would be driven if it was in reverse? You should see this place. He has school busses full of tractor parts. He must have a photograffic memory, I don't know how he keeps track of it all. I was like a kid in a candy store. It was a good thing I only took so much cash. I ended up buying a distributor drive housing as mine has the ear on the outside broke off. He charged me $350 for the gears with some shims and $40 for the housing. Now I just have to remember how to put the tractor back together!
