Not much for a choice here, I can see, not like 12 volt batteries.  I believe you should have a 6 volt, group 1 battery in a B.  Don't expect you will find much difference in CCA with these.  They are usually available at auto parts stores and places like Tractor Supply.  One problem is most places don't sell many of these and they get old setting on shelves, which doesn't help their longevity.  Most batteries I've gotten lately have date stickers on them, try to find one 6 months or less old.  People have their favorite brands but 6 volt is luck of the draw to me.

As far as ground you control that by how you connect the cables, the battery doesn't care.

The Deka 701 6V Battery was replaced by the 901. The 901 has more CCA's to it. It is a group 1 Battery like Jim mentioned. If you have a Deka dealer local, they are a real good Battery. Well sell em', but can't ship em'....  HTH

Might want to measure the battery box to make sure whatever you decide on will fit.

Thanks to all for the replies.  Forgot to ask one question.  I have a friend with a 1952 Chevy PU; factory 6 volt system.  Uses an 8 volt battery. Not sure where he got it.  Would it be safe to run one in the B.  Actually, the tractor cranked over just fine, nice bright lights when the 6 volt was taking a charge.  Now has failed; won't take or hold a charge. Generator working fine.  Thanks again,

6 volt, group 1.

Believe it or not, I found 1 at Batteries+Bulbs that is perfect and starts my B every time.  Even though it can go weeks before starts and is not on a maintainer, always starts.

'Course, I completely rewired the tractor, went over and cleaned every electrical connection and get great charging out of the original generator, but it works perfectly with my totally stock (except for the new wires) system.

I suppose you can use an 8 volt...but if everything is working, why?

I think people went to 8v back when overhauling with oversize sleeves and pistons. 6v struggeled.

Don't bother with an 8V. They're a pain to charge. A good working 6V system will charge a 6V Battery with no problem. Some folks use 8V Batteries as a bandaide for a slow starter or worn Generator. If all components are in tip top shape, and all wiring and connections are on the money, you shouldn't have any problems. Sluggish tired out Starter motors, worn Generators, and poor wiring and grounds are the downfalls of the 6V system. The 6V system needs a lot more TLC than a 12V conversion system.... HTH

Alvin hits on a very important issue with 6v. Ohm's law is since you have half the volts (compared to 12v) it takes twice the amps to do the same work. You need larger gauge cables to carry more amps. 02 is the minimum for a 6v system.
