i shredded some brome one day in the pasture, used a stalk shredder, it was so heavy of growth that i decided i'd rake and bale it with the big round baler. i did and later that winter put the bales on an auction. the dude that bought them was a friend of mine. he told me one day that when he cut the strings on the bales they would explode, one about covered him up! lol

That's how I used to do it, used a 205 bush hog, on the D-10 or 14.  Only complaint is tractor speed has to be low, to cut nice.  Also you get more leaf loss, compared to say, a drum mower.  Sure dried fast, though, cut one day, rake the next, bale the third...Thumbs Up

Ah yes, Drum mower. That has been my dream mower. I have been looking for a used one for several years.  I get flack thinking of going after anything over two hours of driving. The last thing I bought my daughter and her husband insisted they would go get it and it was one hour and 15 minutes away.  I sold the farm so my 8 acres here takes away the need for a new one.
