On my concave I have filler plats why r they there and should I take them out for better separation thanks for any feed back

Concave filler/blocker plates are not for corn or soybeans and are generally intended for hard threshing wheat.

So for wheat barley canola I should keep thes filler plates in my concave, would I not have better separation if they were out, if so can someone please exspane why I have to have them in thank u for all the help

I think it might be a case of volume. Shelling in corn or beans is not a problem. Dry beans come out of the pods easy. Corn, as well shells easy. The trouble with corn in the 1" x 1" cage is cob breaking. Then it is hard to clean out the bits of cob from shelled corn. But in wheat, you mostly just get is the heads. They might need a bit more time in the threshing end of the cage to get knocked apart. This is my thoughts and I only have time to share them with you because, we run a rock into the concave on our R76 and we have down time. Most things I can fix, this is not one the those things.

I am not too familiar with canola combining, but I am quite certain that it is NOT a hard thrashing crop. As Dr. Allis said, concave filler bars are for hard thrashing wheat, and that's it. I'd take the filler plates out for your Canola. Darrel

I take it we are talking about the cage covers on the backside of the cage, accessable from the engine compartment, or are we talking about filler plates in the actual concave itself? if it is the cage covers, take them off for corn. they are meant for small grains. I believe the cage sweep is to be unhooked for corn as well. good luck!

We have an R72 and were having a hard time getting broken wheat heads in the sample and broken pieces of corn cob in the bin as well. We installed the filler bars on our combine and it cleaned up both samples. Unfortunately, it seems we have some crop loss out with the straw now. Good luck!

Well thanks for all the help fro my concave on my gleaner. I also wondering if any one has any different mods on there combine to help with power, feeder house headers air cleaner any thing that will help me out on down time thank you all for all the help hope to talk soon
