I just bought a 190XT from a family friend and hauled it home this weekend after the MO swap meet. With it I received a NOS unopened M&W sleeve and piston set the former owner bought and never used. Yes 6 pistons and sleeves. never opened. i seem to recall M&W parts being quite desirable.. Is this a "find"? are they superior to current engine components?
The tractor may need overhauled but i need to fix a coolant leak before i can go work the tractor to check blowby , power, etc. Should i be concerned about the sealing rings for the sleeves if is use the kit? would i be able to find correct replacement? i recall the former owner saying M&W sleeves had dimples in the water jacket for added surface area and better heat transfer.
im afraid to open it.... thoughts.. suggestions? Edited by CAL(KS) - 05 Mar 2012 at 9:22pm |

Wasn't there a good and better set? The better ones had ribs on the outer wall and I think the head land ring. That old I'd buy some new o-rings.If they were kept well they should be rust free yet. They were good stuff.

Its been many years since i put a set of those in an engine. I dont seem to remember anything different on the outer part of the sleeve. I do remember the bore being slightly larger than original. All the ones we put in had the L shaped ring on top of the piston. Engines with the M&W parts always seemed to have better power and started good when cold. No ether required below 40 degrees!! If the rings looked good i would use them, definitely would use new o-rings on the sleeves.

Hey they even come with a 1 year 120 or 1200 hour warranty. Wonder if it still applies? :-)
