A guy told me these mowers were made for the CA? Is that true? Any idea on model? Did they work well?

Made more so for the B/C.  It's a NO. 3 Sickle Mower.  A NO. 7 Snap coupler sickle mower more so for the CA, then obviously the 80R, pitmanless mower for the later years for the CA.

With the correct brackets, the #3 bolts right up to a CA. I had one about 10 years ago. I don't know about the B.

The #3 mower shown above does fit on the B.  I remember mounting them  In fact, if memory serves me correctly, the bracket mounted on the #3 mower in the left hand picture above looks to have the mower brackets for the B.  If the tractor mounting brackets are available they could fit.  There would also be a special bracket for the lift arrangement for the B so that the smaller B - C hyd. ram could be used.  Also, there was a longer hose so the hyd fluid could be "piped" to the ram.
However, I would carefully consider the size of the cutter bar on the shown mowers.  It looks to be about a 7 foot blade.  The side draft may be more than the B could handle.  On the B-C side mounted mowers we did not mount a 7 foot bar because the B was not heavy enough to combat the side draft in heavy cutting.  A six foot mower was the largest we used on a B-C mower with no problem.
I am away from home now or I could refer directly to a #3 mower operators manual I have.
I know the #3 mower was made to be fitted to the WC, B, C, CA, WD, and WD-45.  I am not certain if brackets were made for the D series tractor.
Good Luck!

Thanks Bill! I appreciate the insight. There is actually a C this guy has with the hose and hyd cyll ram sticking out the back on the right hand side of the tractor. I bet thats what that is for then. He only had a C and a CA.

If i had to guess...are the belly mounted mowers on these tractors more desireable and user friendly? I dont have alot of experience with sickle mowers but it seems to me they would be easier on your kneck....u wouldnt have to be turned around all the time.

Dad's sickle mower for his CA is a mid mount or belly mower depending on who you talk to. Anyway it works very well, more desirable position allowing only a slight turn of the head to see it mowing. Obviously having to turn completely to the rear is a neck ache. And it is 6'.

The number 5 mower was made for a CA, C, and B.  That was a side mounted mower.  We sold a lot of them and they worked fine.  They were harder to mount but the ease of mowing usually overcame the easier mounting of a rear mower.
In our area we kept to the 6' blade on the B and C.  I do not recall selling a 7' blade on a CA.  The #3 mower pictured above usually went on the WD or WD-45, although I do remember selling a few for the B's.
Good Luck!

I have a #7 and have run it on my CA, pretty sure it's 7' too. If you're cutting clean it's a nice easy mowing setup. If you start to bunch up the side draft will turn you. The manual that came with it shows a balance spring for a CA. When I got mine it had the balance spring bracket for a WD or D series.

#3 mower I don't see any mounting brackets in the picture. The CA brackets look like a Triangle that bolts to the Lift arms when straight up and down with the Pin hitch drawbar on. I mowed many acres with one on a C when I was a kid. 7' bar worked fine on a C. I currently have one with two sets of WD mounts.  I bought mine for $125 it came with the WC and  WD mounts, Parking Stand and Manual. I only mow about 600 ft of roadside once a year with it, but it works good and is fairly easy to install and remove.

the one on the left is missing the mounting bracket that bolts to the drawbar.  I have used mine in the Wd45 and D17.  Just for Comparison--$125.00 would buy mine. South central Iowa.

I use an 80R with the 7' bar on my CA with out any issues. As for the head turning , it's no different than looking right before you pull out from an intersection. The 80R mounts close to the tractor and one can see the cutting bar in ones      peripheral vision. Also the the rear mounted mowers do a better job on the corners.
Thanks & God Bless

I mowed a lot of acres with one on a C as long as it's set up correctly the shoe follows behind the right tire. I see it has the grass guard on the lower fram the early ones didn't and they such up grass in heavy hay.You don't need to look back just put the tire in the swath board path. When you get to the corner lift hard right with brake and drop it right back down makes nice clean square corners. When we first put the u shaped bar on the drawbar we had to line it up so it followed the tractor. Also had to drill a hole for dads non standard drawbar support bracket. We used a sleeve adapter to go fron 1 1/8 to 1 1/4" PTO. Ours had a hyd pump that ran off the belt and just used a cord to pull the lift valve. The lift was from a WC mower.
